probability recommended reading
 

Are there any books you all would recommend for figuring poker probabilities? I have some experience figuring probabilities and such (college course work in statistics), but was hoping someone could recommend a book that lays it all out, specific to poker. Thanks in advance.

I would recommend "A First Course in Probability," by S.M. Ross. It's a text, not specifically written for poker, but it's an outstanding overview. With the information in this book, you should be able to answer just about any probability question that has been posted on this board.

It should be warned that Ross's book assumes you have a solid math background to begin with (at the least a semester af Calc). Other books should be recommended for someone for whom this doesn't apply.

Most of the concepts that require the calc background wouldn't really apply here, though. The first few chapters (basic combinations, permutations) seem pretty user-friendly to me, but I did have pretty great math teachers in school...

Theres a neat little book out there called "Hold'em's odds book by Mike Petriv. He goes through many examples using combinations, probablitites, and by "shotgunning" approach. I found the book, and his logic, very interesting, creative, and easy to understand.
