Question about rakes, as it pertains to bonuses.

This isn't a complaint, I am just interested in the reasoning behind it.

I will use Absolute Poker as an example as that is the bonus I am currently working, but I have noticed this at numerous sites. At Absolute Poker, you are credited with one "point" at a ring game for participant in a raked hand of 25 cents or more. When you participate in a STT, however, you get one "point" for every dollar in entry fees you pay. It would seem logical that you should get more "points" for participating in a STT than a ring game (as you are contributing so much more) yet this seems to be the case at nearly every online poker site. Is there a particular reason why, or is this simply the way it is?

Thanks in advance.

Chris

Admitingly, I have oftentimes wondered this myself.

Perhaps because the rooms make more money in rake from cash games than STTs, they really want to encourage players to exhaust their money there.

maybe its because if you pay $1 to the poker site to play a tourney which lasts an hour your equivalent in hourly rake is much lower than if you are playing a cash game (where you might see 50-100 hands per hour, totaling maybe $20/hr in rake for the table).

It may be that they're unable to multiply. There are several sites I wouldn't put that past.

Yes, I had considered that as well. However, that $20/hour would be split amongst all of the players at the table. For a 10-person table, that's $2 per hour each (a little more for a 9-person table, obviously). In addition, I would receive dozens of "points" over than same hour, potentially as many as 80. (In reality, the number of credited raked hands would probably be about half that).
