Talk about a bad beat---unavoidable I think.

Ok, so here's the short of it. I'm 78d on the button. Villian is UTG+3. villian raises, UTG+4 calls, I call, UTG calls, and UTG+2 calls. Flop is: Js 8c 7c. Check to Villian who bets, I raise, knock everyone out cept UTG+2 and Villian, who both call. Turn is 8s!! Villian bets, I raise, UTG+2 folds, Villian calls. River Ac....so here I think he either got his flush or his pair A with King kicker . He bets, I raise, he calls (WTF?!) Shows down his pocket Aces!! So can anyone tell me how I might have played this wrong? I'm still trying to see how this was avoidable...so far, one of my hardest bad beats of the week.

Sorry, this is Limit .50/1 btw...just realized wrong forum.

Im thinking.... Fold Preflop, Once you hit that flop you and AA are going to get all your money at some point in the hand, its just a matter of when. I also dont think this is a Bad beat... The better cards prevailed.

Better luck next time.

Hmm, yeah, fold pre-flop would have been an option. I'm normally a T/A player..but the pot odds for it were there, I calculated bout 3 callers, then a raise, then a caller, and I figured the other 3 would call the raise. That's pretty good pot odds for 78 suited. Specially when this table was pretty loose all night. And I still think it's a pretty bad beat, considering he only had 2 outs on the turn and river. And the way I was thinking, with 4 others calling the preflop raise, I would assume one of them had an A.

Im not criticizing at all, you reduced AA to a 2 outer and he caught the river, but preflop is probably the only chance you had at folding this hand. I also like playing suited connecters, AA just caught back up this time.

And by the way, villain played badly. He should have raised you in two opportunities. Flop (questionable so as not to show strenght) and definitely on the river (only call the river is nuts).

Fold preflop? Are you kidding?

I make my living of suited connectors in raised pots?!?!?!?!

I believe the definition of a bad beat is being ahead Preflop-Flop-Turn and then losing on the river. Could be wrong but that's what Ive heard.
