Help!! - Getting $ At a Casino

I'm heading down to AC this weekend and I forgot to hit up my bank before it closed. Does anyone know if its possible to get chips/sign up for tournaments by using a check or credit card? Is it possible to get a small line of credit using either of the above? How difficult is it to go about doing it. This will be for Saturday morning, so if my bank is normally closed will that be a problem?

Thanks for all your help!

You should be able to get a decent amount out of an ATM machine. Also, can't you borrow it from someone?

I guess that you don't have a cash card or a sufficient withdrawal limit on one. If you need to, the casino can facilitate you getting a cash advance on your credit card 24/7, but the juice is pretty high to do it.

Usually there are terminals in the vicinity of the cage to do that.

Stop off at any ATM along the way to the casino. What you DON'T want to do is use the one in the casino.

Not been to Atlantic City... but the ATMs in the casinos out my way tack on huge charges - the one time I had to get cash from one I was hit with 9% by the casino on top of the atm fee and cash advance interest on the credit card.

Check? I tried that once. Cashier probably burst out laughing as soon as I walked away, but she did politely say no with a straight face. You won't find anywhere within a mile of casino that will cash a check without either a pound of flesh or even more fees than the ATM. (When I first started playing poker this took me by surpise - at a bridge tournament they will happily cash checks, in or out of state, for any member of the bridge league.)

Edit: Also, you mentioned "Saturday morning." Is going to the bank on a Saturday morning really a problem in that part of the country? Saturday banking was a new experiment ten years ago, but virtually all banks in my hometown are now open either 10-2 or 10-4 Saturdays. I sorta assumed that sort of trend hit big cities in the East before it percolated down to me.

Do you have a pin number for your credit card to use for cash advances? If so, you can use the machines for that purpose with no fees (beyond those charged by your credit card...typically high APR w/ no grace period and 3% of the advance with some cap). If you have no pin, the juice for a credit cash advance is high...like 80 per 1000 or something like that (and that's in addition to the fees your card will charge you).

There are (I believe) ATMs at Taj that will "re-start" your daily max ATM limit for something like a $10 fee. Or you can cash a check at an offsite location for heavy juice. The key is to have a cash bankroll or plan properly so this isn't an issue.

It's possible to go to the Credit office and set up a line of credit; they will want the routing numbers from your check so they can do an EFT from your account if you don't pay off your marker. My wife and I did that last year at the Taj ($300 credit line, which is their minimum), and had no trouble (except that our credit union refused the EFT, and we had to pay it off with a check, but it wasn't a real problem). We were hotel guests at the time; I'm not sure if that made a difference.

EDIT: P.S. - There was no fee, IIRC.

How much were you looking to bring?

Why not take 300 or 500 out tonight at the atm and then do the same tomorrow?
