Upgrade to XP?

Hi,

I am currently running Windows ME (don't laugh) and have been having a lot of problems with system crashes, especially when I exit a poker site. If I upgrade to XP, will I have to reinstall everything that I currently have on the system? What is the best way to accomplish this? Is XP worth the price of the upgrade?

Thanks in advance.

haha! (sorry!)

I wouldn't upgrade, I'd clean install.
reinstall everything? yes.
best way? buy a geek dinner.
worth it? oh god yes assuming your computer can handle it. I ran it on a P3-500 w/360MB of memory just fine.

I agree with Smoore, definitely worth it.

Do you by chance have an external harddrive? if you have another computer in the house hooked up to a network, i would transfer everything to that computer temp. and transfer back when you finish installing XP.

also, i bought the PEM version of XP, essentially the same thing as retail except they dont have all the manuals, etc... still brand new and cheaper.

Good idea about the external hard drive. Everyone should own one of these. I use mine for hauling large amounts of files around to friends houses for sharing. I have never used it to back up someone's important files, but it'd work great for that. I see an 80GB on newegg right now for $50 after MIR.

edit: typo in the above post... PEM = OEM.

DO NOT BUY IT FROM EBAY if you don't know what you're doing.

oops, thanks for the correction. yeap, OEM.

I purchased mine from Newegg a couple years ago for $140. sweet price at that time.
