Preflop Raising

When someone raises preflop, (assuming they are not extremely loose)do you assume they have A2xx? In other words, are there many hands not containing A2 that you would consider raising with? ie.: maybe A345 or AAK3?

Any AA with 2 to the wheel.

I don't think I'd ever raise with A345... too much of a drawing hand (A245 w/ suited A, then maybe). If I'm UTG or otherwise the first one in voluntarily, I'd definitely raise with AA3K, A3KK or any A3BB hand (where B = Broadway card.) Any more than one person in ahead of me, I'd be a limper with all of those hands.

It sure depends on the player, although I've often seen PF raising with AArag-rag.

What about AAxx double suited, where xx are neither wheel cards nor broadway cards?

Re: Preflop Raising

I raised A A double suited last night and not sure it was the right move.

I got more money in the pot when I was less than a coin flip to win the pot. I don't have the exact numbers, but intuition tells me that a flush will be available roughly 35% of the time and I have two outs to the set of aces...

So, I think I would just limp with the hand in the future and see if there is potential for the flush.

Just FYI you will flop a flush or a flush draw around 13% of the time so DS you will flop it around 25% of the time.

Re: Preflop Raising

It really depends on the player and the limit. Playing .5/1 I have seen raises with AAXX, KKXX, A3 suited, QQJJ, KQJT, and a whole lot of other hands I don't consider raising hands.

In fact playing .5/1 unless it is a tight player that I respect raising from LP I will not assume that they have A2.

Re: Preflop Raising

Depends on position and number of other players in.

Usually, I put them on either
A2xx where xx are good side cards
AAxx
There aren’t many other hands a good player would raise with. Maybe A3KK.

If they raise UTG, I’m more likely to put them on AAxx. If they raise in LP after many limpers, I’m more likely to credit them with A2s

A2xx is dealt 16 ways. AAxx is dealt 6 ways. So in general assuming they have a good A2 is probably correct.
