A couple 400nl hands

This is my first session I've ever played in 400nl so I have a couple hands in question.

First hand: Villian has a 48 vpip and 1 aggro factor. Seems to somewhat know what he's doing though.

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $ BB (6 max, 6 handed) converter

MP ($199.3)
CO ($178.9)
Button ($1054.4)
Hero ($838.6)
BB ($308.8)
UTG ($548.6)

Preflop: Hero is SB with K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. Hero posts a blind of $2.
<font color="#666666">3 folds</font>, <font color="#CC3333">Button raises to $12</font>, <font color="#CC3333">Hero (poster) raises to $28</font>, <font color="#666666">1 fold</font>, Button calls $18.

Flop: ($64) 9[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 5[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], T[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(2 players)</font>
<font color="#CC3333">Hero bets $40</font>, Button calls $40.

Turn: ($144) 3[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(2 players)</font>
Hero checks, Button checks.

River: ($144) 3[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(2 players)</font>
Hero checks, <font color="#CC3333">Button bets $100</font>, Hero calls $100.

Final Pot: $344

The reason for the river call was I put him on AJ, AQ, or AK. I know its bad, but was it horrible? Any way I could have avoided this perdicament? I was thinking about throwing out a blocking bet of $50, but believed even if I had him beat he might have raised me. Thoughts?

Second Hand: No read on villian.

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $ BB (6 max, 6 handed) converter

BB ($212.3)
UTG ($186)
MP ($1095.4)
Hero ($681.2)
Button ($460.8)
SB ($511.2)

Preflop: Hero is CO with J[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], T[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. SB posts a blind of $2.
<font color="#666666">2 folds</font>, Hero calls $4, <font color="#CC3333">Button raises to $8</font>, <font color="#666666">1 fold</font>, BB calls $4, Hero calls $4.

Flop: ($26) J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], T[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 4[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(3 players)</font>
BB checks, Hero checks, Button checks.

Turn: ($26) A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(3 players)</font>
BB folds, <font color="#CC3333">Hero bets $10</font>, <font color="#CC3333">Button raises to $20</font>, <font color="#CC3333">Hero raises to $50</font>, Button calls $30.

River: ($126) T[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(2 players)</font>
<font color="#CC3333">Hero bets $100</font>, Button calls $100.

Final Pot: $324

This hand I was wondering more if I maximized the value out of it. Obviously I had the nuts, so is the flop check correct? Turn reraise? River bet of $100?

Thanks,
JimmyJazz1

Re: A couple 400nl hands

I'm new on these forums, just trying to give a little advice... Well at least say what I would have done.

1st Hand: I dont like your reraise out of position. I dont like the call on the river. Was it really worth calling $100 with a strong ace? It is possible for him to have anything since you dont know anything about him.

2nd Hand: I would have came out betting on the flop. You will most likely get callers with KQ, AK, AQ, two hearts, etc. I liked the play otherwise.

#1 - That river call is atrocious, considering it's a diamond.

#2 - If I'm playing this preflop, I'm raising. And bet that flop.

Re: A couple 400nl hands

hand 1 : i think this is a call you're used to making in short handed limit. but because you're paying $100 to win $250, you have to be right ~ 28% of the time. and AQ and AJ are viable holdings, but there are too many holdings he could have, esp with the turn free card and the diamond river.

hand2: i'd bet into this flop, hope to stir up some action. i'd check raise if i thought the pfr would follow with a bet on most flops and hope to catch the bb in the middle.
