What is the best way, or accepted way to shuffle at home games?

Also, when a player shuffles and reveals the bottom card do you declare a misdeal?

? Just shuffle...Then cut by the person to dealer's right.

Whenever I see the bottom card on a deal by someone else (Lately i've been trying a lot harder to NOT look) I tell the dealer to turn the bottom card face up before any betting begins because I accidentaly saw it.

Best bet is to use a cut card. If it's one of those friendly games where that just won't happen then I don't say anything if I see it. I shuffle flat on the table, like a casino dealer does but I've always been pretty skilled at playing around with cards so I don't say anything to anyone who's shuffling in a sloppy fashion because I understand that some people just don't have the dexterity, nor do they care to learn the proper way.

[/ QUOTE ]I scramble, riffle, riffle, box, riffle, cut. We're lucky enough to have a serious game between friends, so nobody's concerned that I do all the shuffling (and dealing).

If you're passing the deck, offer the cut to the guy next to you. But give him a cut-card to do it with.

We play with two decks in our home games, usually. Once you deal, you shuffle the cards then pass them two to the left. That way you never shuffle or cut the cards you deal(maybe a cut, but keep the cards on the table) and nobody gets an edge.

I riffle 3 or 4 times, then do a box shuffle (becuase my riffle technique flashes the bottom card to observant players). I offer the cut to the player to my right.

Our game is pretty casual. We play with two decks, so the small blind has the duration of that hand to shuffle.

What's a cut card, how is it used, and what is it's purpose (what's it's advantage)?

A cut-card is just a piece of plastic in the shape of a card.

You put it on the table, put the top half of the deck on top of it, and the bottom half on top of that. Now you've cut the deck, but there's a solid red card on the bottom, instead of the 2[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img].

The main reason I use it is to ensure that I can't accidently flash the bottom of the deck to a player. (Called "rolling the deck".) But it also prevents cheating. You can't bottom-deal if the bottom is a sheet of plastic. [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]

Cut-cards are basically free; stores sell them for cheap. I use a red one and a yellow one with our two decks, because you can wave them in the air when one player slide-tackles another. [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]

A mix of riffling and then stripping or boxing. Pass the shuffled deck two places to your left, with the cut card on top.
The eventual dealer cuts it and deals.

You don't let it get that far. If you're not using cut cards, have him reshuffle as soon as you see the bottom card.

Why is it so hard for people to shuffle with the cards face down and never lifting up exposing any cards? Place the deck face down, slide the top half off with your right or left hand and riffle, there is no need to do the whole pick up the cards, split them in half, show the two bottom cards and then do the bending shuffle.
