My first NL hand post!

I've played very little NL and I haven't read much either, so I'm just trying to make stuff up as I go. I decided to screw around at a $25 Party NL table for fun.

Villian is 48/25/<=1.00 over about 25 hands. So far he's shown down a few K-rag hands and a pair of sevens, all of which he raised too much preflop. He's taken weird shots at some pots.

So far I hadn't played many hands at the table at all, and I had folded most of them right there. I decided to get a bit frisky and only call the raise in hopes of not scaring him off. In hindsight, I'm not sure exactly how much of a +EV move this is.

In limit, I would almost never consider only calling. Here, though, I hoped to induce a steal attempt. How valid is this?

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $0.25 BB (9 handed) converter

UTG ($33.25)
UTG+1 ($41.1)
MP1 ($8.3)
MP2 ($25)
MP3 ($24)
CO ($10.1)
Hero ($25.4)
SB ($19.25)
BB ($40.65)

Preflop: Hero is Button with A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. SB posts a blind of $0.1.
1 fold, UTG+1 raises to $3, 4 folds, Hero calls $3, 2 folds.

Flop: ($6.35) 2[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], T[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 3[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 players)
UTG+1 checks, Hero bets $3, UTG+1 raises to $6, Hero raises to $15, UTG+1 calls $9.

Turn: ($36.35) 7[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 players)
UTG+1 checks, UTG+1 calls $7.40.

River: ($43.75) 7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 players)

Final Pot: $43.75

(I pushed my last $7.40 on the turn when he checked to me.)

Played fine, I'd reraise more pre-flop though.

Yeah, that's the most dubious part of this, I think. At the time the cold-call seemed like a nifty idea, but the more I think about it now, the more I hate it.

I can't think of many things more +EV than getting all your money in with Aces. Which you did.
Given your description of the villian, besides not raising preflop, this seems fine.

Re-raise preflop. I only like the smooth call line if the guy is an absolute maniac and is likely to bluff off his whole stack if I just call. Against a normal PP guy (and this guy has almost stereotypical numbers) just re-raise. If he folds to your re-raise preflop, his cat must've jumped on his mouse hand because it was surely an accident.

He was. He showed 66. Lucky of me to find someone so giving.

If everyone's this crazy, I think I'm going to have to actually learn this game. I tripled up in 45 minutes.. felt great after 10,000 hands of breaking even at 1/2 limit. Certainly a fun change of pace besides.

Limit is for Asian women...not strong boilermaking men who run a fine spread offence under the greatest offensive mind the b10 has seen in decades..

Yeah limit blows unless you are 24 tabling 1-2 with PT+ BELLS AND WHISTLES...grinding out a buck an hr at each table...unfortunately that sounds like work to me.

Wow. That was the greatest thing I've ever read on this board.

NL is as much of a grind as limit.

Everything is automatic and you truly only need to think about a hand every now and then.

Agreed Ancient but at least NL gets your heart racing once in a while... Getting in all your money when you are fairly sure you are ahead waiting to see villains muck...or his quads
