Anyone else ever just feel like a nasty nasty degenerate while in a casino? I'm currently staying at Turning Stone, and it's kinda sick watching people play slots, roulette, and other ridiculous games. Can't help but wonder if they're betting their life savings. I have no sympathy, but does anyone else feel weird being around all the different people? I'll see people mindlessly scratching themselves while pulling slots for hours.... Maybe it's just cause I find it so stupid.

Once I'm in the pokerroom I feel fine and at home, but the table games/slots seem to really bother me...meh. Probably a good thing so I won't dare gambool it up too much.

I used to once think like you do. But I've "evolved."

I suggest you take up playing craps as therapy for your condition. Hell, I used to always want to be PLUS EV too, but as a condition of my being initiated from the "2+2 club" BACK into the human race, I have decided to occasionally do things that I know are NEGATIVE EV. This allows me to keep in touch with my humanity, and the fact that not everything in life is purely and solely based on whether it's +EV or not. You'll have more fun, I assure you, and possibly live longer, if you follow my lead here. All the participants of last november's craps fest will agree.

I don't have any moral issues but after handling some chips and cards and looking around the table at the other people that are handling them too you can bet I wash my hands before I go to the bathroom as well as after.

Playing -EV games is fine with me if you're responsible and having a good time. Maybe it's the grotesque appearance of 75% of the people gambling. The smoke is very bothersome.

I really don't goto casinos too often, so it's something I can live with...just disturbs me to a certain extent.

Years ago, on a trip to Vegas, I woke up really early and went to play some VP at a bar. I was kind of confused because I fell asleep early and it was actually around 4 am. But, with the time change, it felt like morning to me.

I had this skinny old drunk black man in a quasi-leisure suit try to sell me his watch because this machine was about ready to pay off. I told him "no" about a half dozen times before I grew agitated. I was about ready to ask if he would smoke my pole for that 20 bucks just to see the depths of his desperation he was, but I really did not want to know the answer. Pretty freakin' sad.

Yes, I know exactly what you're saying. Given the choice of supporting California-style cardrooms or giant casino extravaganzas, i much prefer the former. But there aren't cardrooms in New England, so I try to rationalize supporting a business that I really don't care much for.

You sound a bit high and mighty. You do realize that playing poker is also a form of gambling, don't you?

I've noticed a trend on here that anyone who attempts to in any way question the ethics of what we do for fun and profit is immediately accused of self-righteous judgmentalism. I don't think the shoe fits in this case.

While most people in a casino are not gambling addicts, there is something troubling about so many people spending their retirement pumping quarters in the slots. (At least poker, even badly played, is a bit more intellectual though not much at its nadir.) Being troubled by it doesn't make me holier-than-thou.
