Actually, based upon questions I get asked ALL THE TIME by both reporters and regular people who spot me in airports and such, most people seem to think you have to win your way into the event. Many people are very surprised when I inform them that anybody can show up with $10,000 and buy into the event.

Actually, the whole thing can be considered one big tournament for tax purposes. Only pay tax on final (wsop) winnings. One exception would be if he sold all or part of the seat, then he would have to pay on net gain.
