nyc parking question

apparently they were paving the street I was parked on today and therefore towed my car. questions:

1) will I have to pay a big fine/fee?

2) where can I find out how much noticed they have to give? (I parked there 4 days ago and there was no notice/sign)

obviously if they say I have to pay a fine there's absolutely nothing I can do about it, just curious. thanks!

Ahh I am an expert on this as I have been towed more then I like to admit...

If you been towed and its in inpound, there is no way to get it out now except to pay. no if ands or buts. You can however fight it later and get this back. Or you can try and fight now, car stays till you pay or judge authroizes release.

That being said , are you sure its at the impound, sometimes they bring them around the corner.

you need to call a traffic lawyer (www.trafficlawyer.com also some links there) you can also call 311 and ask regarding notice, rights, where it is etc

The fine, is 200 for the hook up + 40 in tax + ~30a day storage for any day over the first day (IE it was towed sunday, you getting charged one day storage on Monday) figure to pay close to 300 dollars to get it out.

thanks for all your help today! I am hoping it's somewhere around the neighborhood, haven't had a chance to look. my wife's boss said to call the local precinct and ask. hopefully that's the case.

If it was moved for street construction then it is somewhere in the neighboorhood. ConEd, Keyspan and the DEP move cars around all the time.

Re: nyc parking question

I had my car towed about two years ago from the UWS when I misread a street sign while attepmting to score drunk at like 3 am. Its no big deal. I think they are always sent to this lot near the port authority, and it was pretty cheap. Like 70$ or so and not much extra for each additional day.
