I should be good enough

But I am not, and I think that is the most frustrating thing of all.

Do I make less mistakes than most of the people I play with? I think so.

But that is not good enough.

I don't know what is good enough, just that I am not there yet.

I should be good enough to play better than I do: maximizing wins, minimizing losses, and appropriately handling suck outs.

Poker tends to attract intelligent people to it. Intelligent people (in my opinion) are often harder on themselves than others when they make mistakes. We think we should be smarter than that. But the bottom line is, it takes a lot more than intelligence to succeed at poker - things like patience and discipline sometimes take longer to learn. I'd guess some people never learn them.

Saying how good you "should" be is pointless. The only thing worth considering is how good you ARE right now, and how good you CAN BE if you work at it.

It might be helpful to narrow this down to a few weaknesses that you can concentrate on.

I believe the book, Killer Poker , deals with this very mindset. Saying, "I suck," or "I should be better," gives you nothing to work with. There are things that you do well and things you do poorly. This is true for any poker player at any level.

I suggest taking notes after each session. Try to identify the biggest weakness in your game, then seek help in this forum. There are some outrageously skilled players here that should be able to help you.
