Plastic Cards
I host a home game once a month or so. Is it worth the extra money to get a few decks of plastic cards instead of the usual bicycle?

[/ QUOTE ] It's certainly worth the money to get one set-up and try them out to see if your crowd likes them. There is no doubt that they will outlast the usual bicycle deck and be more economical over time. |
Re: Plastic Cards
Or maybe 36 decks? (I got them at .30 each in bulk - I'll give some to my friends). Thanks for the input. Love that pic of yours.

Re: Plastic Cards
I think Copag's are absolutely worth the money. KEM's are more expensive and I don't think they feel that much better than the Copag. Once you've played with all-plastic, paper cards feel awful.

Re: Plastic Cards
I've used Kems and have some Copags now.
However, if you can get cards cheap in bulk, I've always thought there was something nice about starting the evening by breaking the seal on new decks of cards and playing with them for the evening. Purely personal preference, here. |

Re: Plastic Cards
my favorite - eBay.
I jsut did a search for "plastic playing cards" - there was about 5 pages of results. |
Re: Plastic Cards
Gotcha
12.95 with $20 shipping. Still, at less than a buck a deck, it's not horrible |
Re: Plastic Cards
Yeah - considering they dont go bad, and a standard deck of bicycle cards is $1.59 - heck - I can give them to my nephews to make card houses out of.

Re: Plastic Cards
Yes, just for playing quality alone.
Try Copags |
Re: Plastic Cards
Sounded like Royals to me as well. Ugh.
|
Re: Plastic Cards
Viceroy - Chinese knockoffs.
|
Re: Plastic Cards
Ah.
Well, I've never been a fan of knockoffs, so I won't go searching for them to try them out (especially if they're a knockoff of-ugh- Royal Plastic cards) |
Re: Plastic Cards
It is absolutely worth it. We play 2 tables of 8 for 5-7 hrs. and went through 2-4 decks per night (Playing 2-decks per table) Even though I bought them in bulk, used paper casino cards 144 decks for $70 bucks which included shipping the 2 set ups of Copags we now have lasted 9 months and still look and play brand new. Every new person to our game comments on how nice the cards are, in the long run they are cheaper and the feel is excellent, we will never go back. Anybody want an gross of paper cards?

Re: Plastic Cards
I've got multiple sets of Kem's and Copag's and I would recommend either Dal Negro Freedom's or Modiano Bike Trophy's. They're just all around better cards and if you are making the switch from paper cards to plastic, these are also a better transition.

I have 8 decks of Copag's, 4 decks of Kems, 6 decks of Modiano's, 2 decks of Dal Negro(I'm leaving out 2 decks but I'm drawing blank) and I would personally take the Dal Negro Freedom's or Modiano Bike Trophy poker width over the rest |
Re: Plastic Cards
yeah plastic is the way to go we had our KEMs for about 1 year and they lasted 1000's of hand in our smoke filled room while we ate sausage and chips and spilt beer and ash on them....we are on copags now which i think are just as good as our old KEMs

Re: Plastic Cards
Without a doubt,... plastic cards are worth every penny.
I've been using the same deck of Copags for more than 5 months, with weekly use... This includes being spilled upon by everything from beer to Rum and Cokes. A gentle cleaning is all they need to be as good as new. Invest in them.... You won't regret it. |
Re: Plastic Cards
I just started using copag... i find them very slippery ... and hard to shuffle.. they are too icy i can't keep them in control.. maybe thats because im new to them..

Re: Plastic Cards
They are a bit slippery at first, but it'll get better with more usage.

Re: Plastic Cards
Anyone know where I can get a good price on a set of plastic (KEM, Copag, etc.) super magnum index cards, preferably bridge sized? This is what I'm looking for:

Re: Plastic Cards
I agree that COPAG and Modiano are the best overall value for 100% plastic cards - only $14.95 for double-deck sets. The best prices you'll find on these cards can be found here ->

I don't think your comments are "wrong" as all this is subjective, but vendor opinions should be taken with a grain of salt. |
Re: Plastic Cards
Most definitely worth it. When me and my poker buddies play, a normal deck gets ruined in only a couple games. Plastic cards last forever. Not only that but when people look at their cards in hold em they tend to bend normal cards - that won't happen with plastic cards.

Re: Plastic Cards
Hi
In my opinion the copag cards are worth the money and you should consider to buy the 4 color deck. -sunek |

They say right on the box (like any generic product worth its salt) "Compare to Kems". Now, I couldnt pick Kems out of a police lineup... but these seem... odd. I think its the size. When you first moved to plastics from the typical Bicycles, did you notice the size difference? |

[ QUOTE ] Has anybody gotten the pokerstars plastic cards? Any evaluations if so? [/ QUOTE ] I believe that they are plastic coated and not true plastic cards. [/ QUOTE ] They're Studkings... plastic, but generally comparable to Royal or those knockoffs, not KEM or Copag. Definitely a waste of 1000 FPP. |
Re: Plastic Cards
Did you get bridge size or poker size? Bridge size are 1/4" narrower than poker size.
|
Re: Plastic Cards
They say Hold'em right on the box... but thats as close as it comes to saying.
|
Re: Plastic Cards
Poker/wide size are 3.5" x 2.5"
Bridge size are 3.5" x 2.25" Most plastic cards come in poker and bridge sizes. Some plastic cards (copags IMHO) are quite flimsier than paper cards which could be the issue. Its just a matter of getting used to them. |
Re: Plastic Cards
When a man (me) with 22 decks of plastic cards (soon to be 23) recommends Modiano Bike Trophy's and Dal Negro Freedom's over Copag, you should listen.
Seriously, Copag's are fine cards and they will grow on you and you'll eventually be happy you bought them. |
