I have one of the worst songs ever stuck in my head . . .
'If you'll be my bodyguard' by Paul Simon. I have no idea why, I haven't heard it in years but there it is, over and over again . . .
If you'll be my bodyguard, I can be your long lost pal. Oh the horror. Anyone else? Been done before, but I always like the responses. |

Re: I have one of the worst songs ever stuck in my head . . .
yeah, pretty annoying song to get stuck in your head. Worse however is "Lady Lumps" by the BLack Eyed Peas. Possibly the worst song in the history of mankind.

Re: I have one of the worst songs ever stuck in my head . . .
I've always really enjoyed this song. I've been listening to it a lot the last few days in particular, actually.
[ QUOTE ] A man walks down the street He says why am I soft in the middle now Why am I soft in the middle The rest of my life is so hard I need a photo-opportunity I want a shot at redemption Don't want to end up a cartoon In a cartoon graveyard Bonedigger Bonedigger Dogs in the moonlight Far away my well-lit door Mr. Beerbelly Beerbelly Get these mutts away from me You know I don't find this stuff amusing anymore If you'll be my bodyguard I can be your long lost pal I can call you Betty And Betty when you call me You can call me Al A man walks down the street He says why am I short of attention Got a short little span of attention And wo my nights are so long Where's my wife and family What if I die here Who'll be my role-model Now that my role-model is Gone Gone He ducked back down the alley With some roly-poly little bat-faced girl All along along There were incidents and accidents There were hints and allegations If you'll be my bodyguard I can be your long lost pal I can call you Betty And Betty when you call me You can call me Al Call me Al A man walks down the street It's a street in a strange world Maybe it's the Third World Maybe it's his first time around He doesn't speak the language He holds no currency He is a foreign man He is surrounded by the sound The sound Cattle in the marketplace Scatterlings and orphanages He looks around, around He sees angels in the architecture Spinning in infinity He says Amen! and Hallelujah! If you'll be my bodyguard I can be your long lost pal I can call you Betty And Betty when you call me You can call me Al Call me Al [/ QUOTE ] |
Re: I have one of the worst songs ever stuck in my head . . .
Our a cappella group in college used to do this one. Good song.
|
Re: I have one of the worst songs ever stuck in my head . . .
Good song. Better album.
|
Re: I have one of the worst songs ever stuck in my head . . .
Very good album, especially Graceland and Diamonds on the Soles of her Shoes.
|
Re: I have one of the worst songs ever stuck in my head . . .
Paul Simon is complete trash but this song is so-so catchy. Hearing college marching bands or acapella groups do it makes me want to puke though.

Paul Simon is easily the finest singer/songwriter of the 20th century [/ QUOTE ] It's alright, typos happen. |
Re: I have one of the worst songs ever stuck in my head . . .
When I get a song stuck in my head that I wish wasn't there, I use the "J. Geil's Defense".
Either listen to, or mentally run through "Centerfold" by the J. Geil's Band. It will trump any song in your head. |
Re: I have one of the worst songs ever stuck in my head . . .
How bout Dragostea Din Tei?
"numa numa" god, ever so annoying. |

This song is accompanied by one of the greatest music videos ever made.

Re: I have one of the worst songs ever stuck in my head . . .
I don't really feel the need. I think he sucks, but that's that. But saying he's the great singer/songwriter is just a joke. I'm not even a huge fan of the VERY OBVIOUS #1 pick for this but I'll definitely concede he's it.

Re: I have one of the worst songs ever stuck in my head . . .
this song is not a bad one to have stuck in your head.
the last song i had stuck in my head was 'blister in the sun' by the violent femmes. and currently i can't stop hearing OMC's 'how bizarre'. |
Re: I have one of the worst songs ever stuck in my head . . .
I'm really curious who this VERY OBVIOUS #1 pick is.

if you say michael bolton, I might have to flog you. Honestly, my faves are recent, like James Maynard Keenan, amazing stuff. |

Re: I have one of the worst songs ever stuck in my head . . .
Townes Van Zandt or Bob Dylan I suppose.
|
Re: I have one of the worst songs ever stuck in my head . . .
I guess he means Bob Dylan, but I'd put him on the same level as Paul Simon, because although Bob Dylan certainly had more effect in shaping the genre, Paul Simon has had a much more prolific career.
|
Re: I have one of the worst songs ever stuck in my head . . .
Saying Paul Simon is the best singer/songwriter ever is a little ridiculous.
Saying Paul Simon sucks is absolutely absurd and anyone who does so should be shot and/or banned. |
Re: I have one of the worst songs ever stuck in my head . . .
I don't think you're going to see a lot of votes for Townes, awesome though he is.
Bob Dylan? John Lennon? Neil Young? Bruce Springsteen? Who's number one with a bullet here, and who's not even close? |
Re: I have one of the worst songs ever stuck in my head . . .
I have no problem having a discussion over whether or not he is #1.
Anyone who would leave him out of a top 5, or even top 3 list is completely ignorant of the genre. |

[/ QUOTE ] Umm, without looking at either's discography, I'm pretty sure this is wrong, plus half of Simon's career sucked and was just him strumming with Kenyan women moaning in the background. |
Re: I have one of the worst songs ever stuck in my head . . .
I could understand some confusion of what constitutes the singer/songwriter genre. I consider it an offshoot of amderican folk and would include Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, James Taylor, Dave Van Ronk, etc., and I would consider most of those musicians you just listed as rock stars.
|
Re: I have one of the worst songs ever stuck in my head . . .

Re: I have one of the worst songs ever stuck in my head . . .
Paul Simon's career started almost 10 years before Bob Dylan's did and he's releast records at a similar rate. Also, much of Bob Dylan's releases in the last 10-15 years have just been rerecordings of older songs.
|
Re: I have one of the worst songs ever stuck in my head . . .
I kind of have the same feelings about Neil Young that I have about Bob Dylan. He's an incredible songwriter, and his work is incredibly influential, but his voice sucks.

Re: I have one of the worst songs ever stuck in my head . . .
I once got "Ironic" by Alanis Morissette stuck in my head. It made me sick to my stomach and was unable to sleep because of it. I figured that had it gone on longer than it did there would have been a "Banana Phone" incident.
