My first time laying down KK preflop. Please help.

2/3 hand at Commerce. I am UTG with KK. I raise to $15. UTG+1 calls. Next guy folds. Next guy raises to $200. He has about $100 more. I have him covered. It is folded to me. I go into the tank for 10 minutes. This guy has made some big preflop raises prior, but nothing close to this big. While I am thinking he says "if you have kings you should call" After tanking I fold. What does everyone think?

I was looking for something a little more than that. Could you elaborate please?

You're playing a live 2/3 game, you have 100BB stacks, you are playing with a guy who has re-raised big a lot of times, and you have provided no other read.

Go all in.

To clarify, he has not re-raised ever that I can remember. I said he has raised big, to $30 or $35, but I do not remember him re-raising

Based on the information you gave us about villian (which is very little) I think Jim hit it spot on. Bad fold. For your fold to have been correct you needed to have one hell of a read (which you didn't tell us about). Otherwise, i think it's unlikely villian had AA

[/ QUOTE ] I was just about to say that. Ten minutes, wtf. If I was villain, I would've turned over my hand if you promised to go home.

could you tell us more about the way he said it? Was he nervous, was he calm and relaxed, did it seem like he was trying to look calm and relaxed? If he was calm, I think hes telling the truth and id call. Id probably call just based on the strength of my hand alone, but wtv. Also, I may be way off, and if someone who is better at tells than me comes along, plz feel free to correct.

Looks like a clear call based on the strength of the hand, plus his raise to $200 looks like it doesn't want action, it wants folds.

When people say things like "if you have kings you should call", more often than not they're telling the truth. If he had aces, he would be afraid that saying something like that might induce a fold. However, if you find yourself confused by the table talk, the best thing is just to ignore it, pretend it didn't happen, and evaluate just based on size of bets.

Refer to HOH (can't remember if it was I or II), it describes this very scenario and also explains why you should NOT be making this laydown.

This is either a sophisticated play with AA, or villain is an idiot. I choose idiot.

I haven't played that game in a while, but if I remember correctly, its not a game to be laying down kings preflop. Ever.

Don't do it. These guys love to do this with your typical overplayed cards, AK, JJ, etc.

Horrible fold.

Yes this fold sucks. You should understand that laying down the 2nd best hand in holdem preflop is a play that requires a really good read. If you dont have a really good read, you dont lay it down. It's only 1 buyin after all. If he has AA make a mental note and dont call him the next time. Or call him the next time as well, and then fold the 3rd time you see him doing this.

The fold is bad because you did not have a good read. If you had a good read, you dont need to open this thread, because you then know your decision is correct.
