Virtual Memory too Low?

I keep getting a pop up saying, "Your Virtual Memory is Too low." How do I go about fixing this?

Re: Virtual Memory too Low?

well you can either ad more ram, or right click on my computer and goto properties, under the advanced tab, theres a setting for performance, under the advanced tab again, you can change the size of your virtual memory. just set this higher

This was assuming your running XP, if not it should still be somewhere under the properties of my computer

basically virtual memory is space on the harddrive set aside so that when your using too much ram, it can use the harddrive space to supplement the ram, the only problem is that the harddrive is slower than the ram so you can run into issues with performance.

How much ram are you running? what processor? what programs are you running when you get this error?

Not sure where to find out how much ram I am running but my computer is good (3 GHz 512 MB 100 GB). I have 53 processes running right now namely 3 Mozilla Firefox, Party Poker, Poker Tracker, MusicMatch Jukebox. It is very very slow once I am trying to multi table and browse the web, its almost impossible to do so.

Browsing the web as in 2+2 forums and email and such, not looking at porn.

Re: Virtual Memory too Low?

Virtual memory too low? Update your antivirus or install AVG, get spybot and adaware. If you don't have enough room to install them, we've found the problem. Your hard drive is full so the virtual memory can't grow large enough.

If it only happens after the computer has been running awhile, something you're running has a "memory leak". It means the program is written incorrectly and is actually leaking memory, eating up all your RAM (51MB) and your virtual memory.

This can be caused by a malware program (virus or spyware) or by a poorly written utility. Search for all of your process names on google, see what they are. Don't post your process list on the internet (here) because if you are running a trojan, anyone with the control panel can pwn you (again?).

If all that doesn't turn anything up, disable a program you run all the time and reboot; see if it still happens. Musicmatch is a program you're running that most of us probably aren't. If it's not that, take a look at any shareware programs you installed that run in the background.

Re: Virtual Memory too Low?

I agree with all the above that there is soemthing runnign that is eating up resources, with 512 of ram you might want to bump up to 1 gb, also you may be running a program that has a memory leak, and there is really no way of fixing that other than to narrow it down to what progeram it is and stop running it or wait for a new update of the program

What version of Firefox? There are some known memory leak issues with certain versions. I upgraded to 1.5 and it seems to be much better on my computer.

You haven't posted again, so maybe your prob is gone?

You got a lot of excellent suggestions - I'd like to add: adaware and spybot's newest update may conflict. You'll get a popup.

If you want to know just what's installed on your system (h/w & s/w - including updates), try belarc.com. It's always worked for me.
