Deep stack tourney - AJ in CO nearing bubble time

Button seems like a good player. He hasn't showed down many hands and the few that showed were reasonable. He used his big stack to push me off a steal attempt about 5 orbits earlier. There are 113 players left. 99th is about $45. 1st is $7,600.

I think i probably push, i think he'd reraise preflop w/ stronger aces, and the only weaker ace that sucks is A6... so yea.. i push.

My thoughts before acting:

I hate AJ

He called preflop.

AK? probably doesnt fit his style. He would have reraised preflop with that or AA or KK, probably QQ as well.

AQ? AT? AJ? smaller A? Medium to medium large pair? Hit a set? All these could make sense with this guy, I think.

Notice his bet size (16,800) - I think he meant to put me all in as that bet was slightly larger than what my stack showed (16,837 in my stack), but I had already bet 8000 so I can come over the top of him (albeit not much over the top in relation to the pot). He could be using his stack to intimidate with the bubble approaching.

The pot is now 36,200.

I hate AJ a lot right now

My only options as I see it:
fold and limp to the money with about 16,000 chips left.
push and hope he's in the lower range of hands I put him on.

I think pushing is the best option here.

I really hate AJ a lot right now.

Does anyone else see anything I might have missed?

I don't see why he wouldn't push AQ preflop here either...

I really think you're ahead here a lot.

Touche.

Well i think that's being results oriented.. most opponents are pushing AQ there.

Re: Results

I was really thinking AQ was a good possibilty there. I see calls like that pretty frequently from good players, which this guy was.

Anyway, was just wondering if anyone thought this could have been played better or different?

Sigh. I hate AJ. Did I mention that?

Regardless of the results, I think you have to push here. Most people would reraise preflop with AQ or AK against a CO raise. You are pretty well pot committed and villain could have a flush draw or a weaker ace.

Re: Deep stack tourney - AJ in CO nearing bubble time

You have almost half your stack in the pot with the button's push. Unless $95 means a lot to you I would call in a heart
beat. You have top pair good kicker. Yea, he may have AQ
or AK but his range of hands which he may call with probably
includes smaller suited Aces, KQs, KJs, and maybe QJs. The fact that you have an Ace makes it even less likely that he
has an Ace and more likely he has two big broadway cards with spades.
