I tilt. Period. I don'y know really how to overcome it but I try very hard to be tight aggressive but people call my(relatively) rare preflop such as AKs with garbage like 6-8os hit bottom pair and hang on. I did run up my winnings to $500 and took out $350 for xmas(also didn'y want so much in there in case of extreme tilt)

Are there any words of encouragement for a hard tilter or general advice??

Read SSHE a couple of times. Learn where the money comes from. Don't try to bully calling stations. Don't think that a better starting hand "deserves" to win against a weaker one. Understand why there are no public "chess rooms" where people play chess for money.

you also see this phenomenon in professional pool.

I feel so bad for Allison Fischer who is so F***in good at 8-ball, and works her ass off for three days to win $7,000 in a TV-televised tournament... OMG WOW

Someone just randomly won 7k on a PokerStars tourney while I was typing this message... and they did not dedicate anywhere near the same time and effort to their craft as Fischer...

Games of absolute skill do not attract much speculation.

Pay close attention to how you tilt. There may be a lesson waiting for you there about a playing style that comes more naturally to you than textbook tight-aggressive and is still a winning style.

I'm certain I'm not telling you anything new here...

If you want to maximimze your winnings (or even win at all), you must:

1. Do a decent job of table selection

2. Try to read your opponents

3. Play the probabilities...meaning understanding and applying the concepts of outs, pot odds, effective odds, and implied odds

4. Pay close attention to pot size

5. Play within your bankroll

6. NOT TILT (i.e. control your emotions)

There are probably others, but those are the biggies.

There is skill involved in numbers 1 through 4 and you may even be able to skip #1 and #2 depending on the limits you're playing at. For #5 and #6, there really is no "skill" involved per se. #5 and #6 are simply choices, but they are choices that you MUST make.

Another way to look at it...you could do everything else right, but if you TILT, you could very easily wind up a loser. A few hands of tilting can cost you days of winnings. Why do it? Kick your cat instead!
