L.A. Clippers

Now that they got Cassell, their tentative starting 5 looks like:

PG: Sam Cassell
SG: Cuttino Mobley
C: Chris Kaman
SF: Corey Maggette
PF: Elton Brand

I may be wrong, but this looks to be a fairly strong front 5. Sure Cassell's a year older, but if he gets his head straight, even in the West, this team might be a fringe playoff-worthy team. But of course the Clippers will manage to stink it up regardless of what happens.

Any other team, and I would say that lineup should definitely be a playoff team. 7 or 8 seed perhaps, but should at least make it. And if they got lucky and nabbed a 5 or 6 seed with a good draw, they might even have a shot at the second round.

But this is the Clippers we're talking about. The last time I had hope for them, they managed to take a stellar lineup including Andre Miller, Q Richardson, Maggette, Odom, and Brand, plus solid depth...and stumble to an utterly horrible 27-55 record. 55 losses, over 2/3 of their games! Worst team in the division, second worst team in the West, and fifth worst team in the entire league. Pathetic.

Yea I don't know what the deal is. Despite Elgin's and Sterling's many attempts to completely render this team impotent, they still manage to field some decent talent every few years. But no matter if the team has talent or not, the end result is always the same. 30 or so wins and a ticket to the lottery. So sad.

Just a few short years ago, their starting lineup looked something like:

PG) Andre Miller
SG) Corey Maggette
SF) Lamar Odom
PF) Elton Brand
C) Michael Olowakandi

And they even had some depth if I remember correctly.

Of course they disappointed..as per usual with the Clippers.

Yeah, but that lineup is totally different. Maggette has gotten a lot better, he was a lot younger when A Miller was with the Clips. Olowakandi is terrible, and I'm convinced almost any Center is better than him, so Kaman is an upgrade. Elton Brand has gotten older, but he's is still the same player. Andre Miller just did not work with the Clippers, his style of play was not suited for that team in my opinion.

In the West, the Clippers will have to compete with some improved teams for a spot at a 6-8 seed, but they have the talent to make it.

They were saying that every year after they traded for Brand. It's not gonna happen now.

If you're a Clippers fan and want to have some hope, by all means go ahead. Just don't be surprised when they break your heart, again.

Elgin Baylor is a veteran of the lottery process for a reason.

SOOGA...please dont disappoint yourself man... as long as they have an owner who only looks at the clippers as an investment... they will still suck...

Sterling is a slum lord!
