Anyone used findpokerpal.com to find local home games?

I'm wondering if it is worth the 5 dollar a month fee to access the information. Also, does anyone know of any other good sites to find local home games? I've tried homepokergames.com with some success but I'd like to know if there are any other good ones. Thanks.

Am I the only one that sees some risk here?

I use pokerpals with mixed results. First it is where I found my original local game. This has developed into 3 other games weekly one of with is at my house. Our game which is the largest of them now has 30-40 people at the game.

I also send e-mails to other members who live within 10 miles of our game. Out of 100 or so e-mails I have gotten 2 player one of which I had to tell not to come back anymore.

My site is pretty new but you can search for a game in your area, or setup a club that people can join: www.homepokerclub.net

If you don't like gambling, why are you playing poker?

I just put my game on findpokerpal.com last week and got a new player who was a good fit with our group.

I don't really like the format of homepokergames.com but I will likely list my game there also.

I tried your site -good concept btw. I'm having some issues with the search by location feature however. For example I searched: Boston, MA and got no results but when I looked under the groups with names that started with a 'b' there were a couple from Boston. I think it may have to do with groups not listing there location or maybe the search is very very specific and I needed to not capitalize 'b' or something like that.

I think, ideally, if you decide to expand this concept, it would be nice to have a search nearby function so you don't have to search for every city near you.

Those are just some thoughts I had...

Re: Anyone used findpokerpal.com to find local home games?

Some general stuff about your homepokerclub.net questions:

Try searching under MA.

Search nearby can't work if people don't enter actual locations into the club descriptions, and a lot of people aren't going to want to provide too much information about where their game is. (To club members, "Joe's basement" is a perfectly useful location. To non-members, searching for games near "Joe's Basement" isn't going to work.)

Also, the Boston's Game club isn't in Boston. The guy's name is Boston. I don't think any of the B clubs are in Boston.

Steve's site is great for keeping people up to date about existing clubs, but I wouldn't yet recommend it as a method of finding a new game. Maybe after it's had some more time to grow.
