Another Hand Post

Here's a hand post and I would like you guys to tell me what you think about the way it was played. But please explain/justify the comments that you make because I am fairly new to omaha/8. But I do understand alot of the poker theory concepts so feel free to use them to add to your justification. (The main problem is that I just don't know how to use what I know at omaha/8 ).

Calling on the flop is a boarderline play. You are getting 9-1(right?) to call for backdoor low potential and an inside straight draw. I think you need to fold the flop. Since you called I would definitly fold the turn.

My Opinion:

You played it OK.

Just try to get a feeling for the current pot odds -- (your hand’s expectation with respect to the current situation, namely the: preflop; flop; turn; & river). Remember that on balance for four way action; that when you win: you win about three times as much when you scoop a pot relative to splitting the pot. In average or tight games and three way action; you don't win much when you split a pot. In two way action, you usually win essentially nothing when you split the pot. Also….

Don’t get trapped in the middle when you sense that your hand can’t stand a raise. Get a feel for the type of players around the table….

Learn how to adjust your playing style to the type of game you are in – especially if you are lucky enough to be in a juicy live casino (cash) game.

PP,

I think I would play this the same way.

I like the preflop limp.

We don't like the flop for the low, but this isn't a flop that will hit anyone else either, so I like seeing the turn with the outs to the high straight.

Turn gets rid of your low, it isn't a heart, it doesn't help your straight...throw it away.

That's how I would have played it.

Pre-flop: I would raise. You have a premium hand which is going to be much better then everyone else’s, make them pay to play with you.

Flop: Good call. Your backdoor low draw gives you somewhere between 2 and 3 outs (thanks greg / buzz), your gut shot gives you 4, and your flush draw maybe gives you 1/2 an out. That mean in total you have 7ish outs which means you need 5.4:1 and you are getting 9:1. There is a chance that someone yet to act will check raise but I think that doesn’t hurt you that badly.

Turn: Ugly turn, good fold.

Preflop: I would tend to not raise there, but think raising is ok too. You have an above average hand to be sure, but if someone else has A2 their hand is almost certainly better than your ragged T7 sidecards. The nutflush draw is a great feature, but you don’t hit that very often and want others in for when you do.

Flop: I’d probably call, but its pretty close.
Yes you have 3 outs for low, 4 outs for a gutshot, and ~ 1 out for backdoor flush. So call it 8 outs for the turn. But that is if those outs are guaranteed to win. Sadly, someone else could have A2 to quarter you, someone could have AT to split, if you hit your gutshot then 2 of those 4 outs put an opposing twoflush on board, and no matter what, it’s quite likely some opponent has two pair or a set here to be betting. So I might discount those 8 outs down to maybe 5 outs after all that, so its probably worth calling at 9:1 plus implied odds and with good position, but its pretty close.

Turn: 3 outs, and you might split even then, so fold.
