Re: Wow..is he already broke?

if this is who i think it is, I played against him in a Magic the Gathering tournament some time last year.

Long story short - I used to play a lot and my buddy got me to give it a shot again. He made me a deck. I went to play, and played against all kids all day. Then I played against some dude. Not very nice, didn't talk to me, and had like a bunch of his buddies sitting behind him, talking about how awesome he was. Even though we were in the losers bracket (insert: aren't you all LOSERS at a magic tourny? shhhh it's fun sometimes)

Somebody posted his pic and i immediatly recognized him.

Yeh, that's him. And yes, a lot of the big players play FPP events too, particularly the FPP SNG - there're people with 1m FPP spent on these things.

I believe these are called "barns" at a magic tournament.

[/ QUOTE ]Tom McEvoy busted me out of a 90FPP O8 satellite for the WCOOP. I still thought it was odd that he was playing it.

Thats a pretty sweeping statement to make about moneymaker, considering that all we really have to go on about his skill is rumor, and his play in one tournament, and not even his play throughout that tournament but rather just the hands that made it to tv. I agree that moneymaker isn't as good as the top pros, but arguinig that he is -EV in a $200 buy in tournament? He's placed in other tournaments, and if I remember correctly, he won or came in second in a big televised bounty tournament about a year ago.

I didn't mean it that way, everyone who wins a major tourney like WSOP ME, must have a lot of skill. I just meant that he maybe considered himself very lucky that tourney and not capable of being a tourney pro.

Tourney pro? When they were 3 left and he had the second biggest stack at the Bay tournament, the guy asked the tournament manager what would happen if the 3 players went all-in and the chip leader won. He was inmortalized on tape as the "pro" who asked the most stupid question ever.....

Oh yes, let's not forget, he qualified at Stars... ..

Haha, I'd be willing to bet he's a better player than you. (I'm conceding that he is also most likely a better player than me) And just because he is not as experienced in playing live tourneys (the WSOP was his first) doesn't mean he's not a good poker player. I'm not saying he is good, all I was saying was that we do not have anywhere near enough information to say that he is not good, whereas we have some evidence that he is good (making top 3 in the bay tournament, winning the WSOP, winning the qualifier tournament to get into the WSOP, etc.)

Why on earth would someone playing an FPP tourny be considered poor or a bad player?
If you make PS your home, your going to build up tons of those points. The gift shop is fine, but not everyone wants a baseball hat or T-Shirts. FPP don't convert to cash, so playing in the Tournaments is about the only thing you can do with them.

Re: Wow..is he already broke?

Mainly because when you get used to playing a certain level, playing FPP will feel like an absolute waste of time. Even if you're loaded, 10$ rebuys are probably more fun than FPP, especially for someone that was presumably JB.
