Restaurant question for NYC people

I'm going to a Broadway show tonight and want to get dinner beforehand. What are some good decent places to go to in that area (show is at 44th st and 7th ave), preferably without a reservation and within walking distance (am taking the train)?

-- Thanks, Homer

Carmine's. Not sure about the non-reservation thing. Its very popular.

Carmine's isn't within walking distance. The only decent restaurant nearby is Ruby Foo's (good asian food), but at night you really need reservations for any GOOD restaurant. Why don't you hop on the downtown 1/9 to West Village? Tons of great places down there (search the food forum on NY Craigslist).

Not within walking distance? Carmines is 1 block away at 44th and Broadway.

The original Carmine's is on the upper west side. Hence the confusion.

There are an absolute ton of quality restaurants in the theatre district. If you give us an idea of what kind of food you're looking for and you're price range, perhaps we can come up with something. You also can easily look on Zagat.com.

B Smith's is pretty good, and close.

There's a very good, moderately priced French restaurant called Pigalle at 48th & 8th Avenue. Their steak tartare rocks.

Guess it's too late now, but for some reason, I would have sent Homer to Virgil's.

Virgil's is almost never the wrong answer.
