Overpair vs flush flop
 

usually play 200 nl blinds 3-5.........no hand in particular, just a run of the same hand....was wondering about my play?i get AA, KK, QQ, or even JJ...generally raise preflop 30-50(varying my play) flop comes same suit ( i dont hold any of that particular suit)w/ my overpair beating top pair on the board..i generally make a pot sized bet if called.........then i get commited on the turn if its a blank or i suspect a flush(assumming there hasent been a raise yet)...lets assume all oppostion are LAG....who do u guys play this hand??? As you all can assume ive been getting killed by floped flushes latley..........

Your post is pretty hard to evaluate without taking into account position, number of callers, etc. Also, a very important factor in how you play this hand is whether or not you have the suit on the board in your pair. If you had AA and the nut flush draw, that is a strong hand. In all events, however, this is generally a situation that requires caution.

As JFB says, there are enough factors that one can't give a general answer. Stack size is the biggest issue, IMHO. In general, don't go to the felt with just an overpair if your stack was more than 100 BBs. This is especially true if the possibility exists that you are already drawing dead (such as when a flush or straight might already be there).

Some more general purpose advice: don't feel as if some crime has been committed if you find out that you laid down the best hand. Good players do it all the time, sometimes even when they are pretty sure they have the best hand. Don't marry your big pairs, as spouses, they are too expensive.
