play tight, then lose?

People have always told me to play tight in the begining of the tournament and then get lose as it progress. But my question is, what does it mean to play lose, and how do you know when to play lose?

For example, i usually play SNG on pokerstars. Through out the game i feel the need to play quite tight, unless i have enough chips to bully around.

Much too general of a question. Post some specific hands where you folded when you think a push might have been in order or pushed when you should have folded.

Play loose, then win?

It's not about playing loose, it's about playing aggressive. Because the blinds are worth so much, and because people feel the need to be tight to move up a ladder rung, you can and should steal blinds at will.

Here are two example:
I have a pretty good read on redsox28. He is playing really agressive, practically raising every hand. Altough, he has been catching lots cards, and been having excellent hands. I debate this for a minute, but decide to lay it down.

PokerStars Game #3301877409: Tournament #16349392, Hold'em No Limit - Level V
(75/150)

Seat 5: BJC Poker (2045 in chips)
Seat 6: ThugsyQ10 (2810 in chips)
Seat 8: redsox28 (6280 in chips)
Masterhp: posts small blind 75
BJC Poker: posts big blind 150
*** HOLE CARDS ***
Dealt to Masterhp [3s 3h]
ThugsyQ10: folds
redsox28: raises 300 to 450
Masterhp: folds
BJC Poker: folds
redsox28 collected 375 from pot
redsox28: doesn't show hand
*** SUMMARY ***
Total pot 375 | Rake 0
Seat 1: Masterhp (small blind) folded before Flop
Seat 5: BJC Poker (big blind) folded before Flop
Seat 6: ThugsyQ10 folded before Flop (didn't bet)
Seat 8: redsox28 (button) collected (375)

Here is another example:

I really wanted to call, but the last time he went all in, he came up with AA. Plus i figured i stay put until one gets knocked out.

Both folds are very reasonable.
