Over betting the pot.

I see this alot lately. The pusher is a good respected player. Is there any point in over betting like that? Sure, if you do this with made hands yada yada, but in an online tourny, with 900 players left and an unknown villian who probably don't know you, aren't you risking way too much?

Is this a valid strategy?

How do you act against such a push? What's your range of calling here? As I said, villian is a good, known, laggy player.
