Is it rude not to cash out a check that you got for a present?
Today is my birthday, and this girl gave me an envelope. I looked inside, and there was a $30 check in it.
For some reason I don't want to cash this out. Is this rude? Thanks Soh |
Re: Is it rude not to cash out a check that you got for a present?
Personally I prefer it when people cash my checks faster rather than slow. It's annoying to have outstanding checks that you have to consider when balancing the checkbook etc. Just cash the damn thing, she wouldn't have give it to you if she didn't want you to cash it.

I had a girl do this for me one time i talked to her on the comp while i was in college and she was from back home. She has had a crush on me since i was like 17 but is very shy and she decided to send me a Bday card with a check inside it was for 20$ i probably should have cashed it for beer but for some reason i didnt because i didnt want to give her the wrong idea.

Re: Is it rude not to cash out a check that you got for a present?
i hate it when i write a check and either the person doesn't cash it, or takes a long time to cash it. the money ends up in limbo.

Re: Is it rude not to cash out a check that you got for a present?
You should tell people if you're not going to cash their checks. Maybe take her out to dinner with it or something? The problem if you just don't cash it is that she doesn't know when you might or might not cash it, so she can't use the money for quite awhile.
|
Re: Is it rude not to cash out a check that you got for a present?
Why wouldn't you cash it...free money baby. Also to the person that you didn't want to give the wrong idea to, accepting a birthday present from someone doesn't give them the wrong idea, refusing to take the gift is more mean than helpful.

I know it might seem to you like it's a good gesture not to cash their checks, but... How would you feel if you thought enough of someone to give them a present and they told you that they're going to throw it out or never use it? |
Re: Is it rude not to cash out a check that you got for a present?
What is the purpose/existence of a check? To transfer money from one to another. Meaning they set aside a piece of cash in their bank for it? So unless its like under $20 and there's a story behind the checkwriter, why would you not cash it?

Re: Is it rude not to cash out a check that you got for a present?
Endorse it over to another girl and have her deposit it into her account, paying you in cash. Be sure to ask this 2nd girl to add some of her perfume to the check. When the cancelled check returns the original chick will never send you another check. Problem solved.....

I don't own a TV. [/ QUOTE ] I love it how people who don't own a TV will take every opportunity to tell you that fact. Believe me, the fact that you don't own a TV doesn't make people respect you, or think that you're special or intelligent. If anything, it makes people think you're pretentious. There was a good article in The Onion about this awhile ago. |

My native language is Japanese, so I love it when people use a word that I don't know, so I can look it up and increase my vocabulary.
The word that I didn't know before was "pretentious." Thanks By the way, you may not care, but the reason why I don't own a TV is because I can't control myself and ended up watching too much. Also, you're right that every opportunity that I get, I tell people that I don't own a TV. |

Recently the bank changed it so that its customers can view scans of their cheques online instead. Of course, the bank charges a fee every time you want to view a scan. |

Easy. Cash the check. On her birthday, write a check for $30.
