War on Iran?

There's been some talk about this, and Iran was included in the Axis of Evil: does anyone think this is likely, and would anyone support it? For the record: while I'm against the Iraqi war, I can at least see the arguments for it and think it certainly will have a lot of benefits if it goes well. But a war against Iran... that would set the world on fire, and would be absurdly unjustified. I think this would up the stakes ten-fold, and would be the height of insanity and unprovoked aggression. What do people think?

I've decided to join people like Jimbo and back G.W> BUSH.
Every country but Russia is seeking WMD. We MUST military attack every country in the world but Russia as soon as possible!

You are on the right track Parmenides but why would you leave out Russia? Can't we just save them for desert?

Actually it was the best choice to get across my double entendre. If I had used dessert the adding meaning would likely have been missed. Thanks for noticing Brad!

"But a war against Iran... that would set the world on fire, and would be absurdly unjustified."

Outside the US this is the general concensus about this war.

As far as whether or not we will go to Iran, well that depends heavily on how successful this war is.

Re: War on Iran?

I think North Korea is next. If we go after Iran next, too many lefties will see that as proof that we are specifically targetting Arabs/Muslims. In addition, North Korea is far more of a threat than Iran (or any other rogue state I can think of).

I think Afghanistan/The Taliban was target practice, Iraq is a step up in terms of practice for our military/testing of new weapons, and North Korea will be the toughest test of the three for our military (assuming they don't come to their senses and go back to the arrangement where they took our money & aid in exchange for not working on nukes).

If Iran is pursuing nuclear weapons, then I think we need to do whatever needs to be done to persuade them to stop working on them. The same applies to North Korea. No additional countries should be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons, the world is already dangerous enough. If they wont take money or aid in exchange for dropping their nuke program, then I think a limited preemptive military strike against their nuclear reactors would be a good thing (similar to what Israel did to Iraq circa 1980).

Although Iran may be more of a threat than Iraq, it is a lower priority for military action because there is a good chance that forces within Iran will cause a regime change. Young people in Iran are largely pro-American.

Iran is a country in the Middle East, not a town in Texas.
