Are you called a fish?

I was playing this morning, winning as usual, and then did a silly bluff on someone. As soon as the hand was dumb, he was calling me a fish as was another player, saying Im the dumbest player ever, while another player was telling them to be nice to me, which is what I say when people are making fun of a fish. I realised the entire table viewed me as a fish! I ended up winning on that table and for my session, but I realised that alot of players who dont udnerstand poker very well view some 2+2 Lag play as fishy and some even view the aggro side of TAG as fishy. I pretty much get called a fish at every table I play at every day, and was wondering if you guys get called the same by the ignorant players. I find it pretty funny.

Sorry for the delay, im a poll fish

Re: Are you called a fish?

I'm almost always called a fish at every table. I also have a screen name that baits my opponents, so when they beat me out of a pot they are sure to make a lame joke.

Re: Are you called a fish?

Whenever Im pot committed and suck out, and they flip, I love to make the biggest fish comments. My favorite is "I won, didnt I" or "Look, I have all your money, I must be better"

scdavis0 12-28-2005 12:48 PM

Re: Are you called a fish?

I don't try to tilt my opponents by making such remarks. I think it's bad for the game and bad for my poker karma.

The only time I'll ever chat is if a table coach is berating a fish.

Re: Are you called a fish?

i'm called a fish and a tard at every table. usually because i drop a few dimes at every table. also my name used to have "donkey" in the name so I got called a donkey all the time. these guys are very original. yesterday someone called me an idiot or something and then someone else at the table flat out said "hey! don't tap the glass." what a retard.

FWIW, I have been called names by 2+2ers several times. Not only in 2+2 games.

Re: Are you called a fish?

I called you a fish to piss you off when I knew it was you but you didnt know it was me. LOL. Although you did donk off your stack CR AQ allin on a 9 high board. I dont think Iv ever called with KK so fast

Re: Are you called a fish?

hey, your poll isnt working!

And yes, people think I'm a fish. Sometimes I am, I guess.

edit: Im a nice person. But online especially somehow I often end up having the table hate me + round up to "play back at the bully" type deal. It's pretty interesting how it happens.

scdavis0 12-28-2005 12:53 PM

Re: Are you called a fish?

that's cuz 2+2ers in general are part of the newly found geek poker culture -- nitty and insecure weenies by nature

most didn't come up pre party poker so they have no idea that a certain level of etiquette keeps the whole system in place

ahnuld 12-28-2005 12:56 PM

Re: Are you called a fish?

Im a very polite guy but when people flip on me and start calling me a fish I ham it up, why not play the villan if it means they will throw money at me. I get what bobbo described often.

Re: Are you called a fish?

I was going on third level thinking that you would think I wouldn't push there without a set since you knew I knew you saw me as LAG. However, you were stuck on first level thinking unfortunately for me. I have overpair! I call!

Re: Are you called a fish?

HAHA. All I needed to know is that you're an over aggro mofo

p.s. did you know it was me?

Re: Are you called a fish?

I knew you were a fish (read: 2+2er) but not which one.

Re: Are you called a fish?

I got called a fish on three different tables within 5 minutes yesterday haha.

It happens everyday. They don't understand semi-bluffs or pot odds.

OMG HOW CAN YOU CALL DOWN WITH A FLUSH DRAW?!?

Well... you were giving me 8-1 odds with your stupid little bets.

ahnuld 12-28-2005 01:07 PM

Re: Are you called a fish?

lol. How can you call with a gutshot. I had a set!!
Well, you didnt bet.

Re: Are you called a fish?

I got absolutely blasted on a table a few days ago for pushing AK of clubs on a flop of 4c2c9s

I hit my K and the TT all in against me lost. He didn't seem to understand that he was not ahead with his TT. I was a fish for thinking AKs was ahead of TT on that flop too, haha.

Re: Are you called a fish?

this is the stuff i'm talking about.. why would you take the time to educate this person and everyone else at the table that you were ahead on the flop?

ahnuld 12-28-2005 01:13 PM

Re: Are you called a fish?

I dont think he did. At least, I wouldnt and I agree that people who do suck.

Re: Are you called a fish?

I think just about everyone playing poker on the internet gets called fish pretty frequently. That's because people are rude bastards.

scdavis0 12-28-2005 01:16 PM

Re: Are you called a fish?

his post makes it sound like he pointed out the fact that he was actually ahead, and he was called a fish for thinking that was the case

I kept quiet for a long time, but they constantly were berating me so I decided to get under their skin, I find it is a way to get people "gunning" for you which I believe is VERY +EV.

I also sometimes tell people hearts are the suit most likely to hit a flop that's why I always play suited hearts no matter what.

*shrug*

You have this imposter fish thing down to an art form. If you said such things at my table I'd make a note that said FISH and give you unlimited action!

In all seriousness good gamblers invite people to gamble with them in +EV situations over many years by being honest, friendly, affable and minding their tongue.

Re: Are you called a fish?

Pretty much everytime I push allin with a draw I get called a fish. Especially funny once when I pushed allin with AQo on Qxx(all same suit as my A) just because I thought I had him, he flips over a flopped flush, and turn comes A, river Q. Man 2 people were all over me the rest of the night, I loved it.

I thought it was just me.
I never understood why people hated me,
ganging up, telling eachother to "take him out".

+EV though

you're supposed to reraise w/ 22, obv. GOTTA PUT MONEY WHEN 2s ARE STILL THE BEST HAND!!11!!1!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Are you called a fish?

I'm guilty of both. Not only do I sometimes get called a fish, though not as much, I do the pointing as well. I try not to, I swear, but some people just anoy me to no ends. They hit suckout after suckout and think they are playing great. My favorite is to call someone a "Fishtard". I know its bad etiquette and all and I have cut back a lot and keep my comments to myself, but sometimes I just can't resist.

Wow, Rob, I'm impressed. This is such a step up from your normal response of "raise pf." Holla.

Re: Are you called a fish?

Yeah, I got called a fish at a 1/2 NL the other day when I tried to bluff a guy who was obviously chasing the hell out of a flush when, doink, a third card came up on the river. I had been plucking apart the table until then. Then I called a mini-raise that had been called around the table with 42o from the BB, hit a full house, and won all my $$ back. Got called a fish again. What can you do? Not all of us are going to sit around and wait for the sets and straights to come. [censored] them. [censored] them in the ear.

I think that the real question should be how many fish don't know they are fish? What percentage of them flap and flop around on the felt waiting to be stabbed by some mighty fine LAG and TAG play? How many people still think that a "fish" is a LAG? How many LAGs would ever want such deception to ever change? Am I a fish?

Re: Are you called a fish?

Do any of you guys do intentional things to look like a fish, or make big image plays when you sit down? I've always thought about intentionally losing the first pot in a ridiculous way to make the table think I'm a moron (or making a huge bluff with junk and showing it). I wonder if you could make back enough later to make it worthwhile.

I have a leak where when I first sit at a table I make huge bluffs, sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. I wonder how -EV this leak is sometimes though for my image... maybe +EV?

Re: Are you called a fish?

A good one is when you've been jamming at someone and constantly stealing his blinds, and he bursts out, "keep on doing that you idiot, I'll get you eventually". Obviously, nine out of ten times they get frustrated and push with some sort of crap like top pair Tens, ace kicker. It's priceless.

Another one is when you raise some limpers with a hand like 67 and flop the straight, get all in vs. some sort of suited K with the flush obviously hitting on the river, and then have to hear the whole table going, "that's what you get for playing those crappy hands!"
