Straddle Inquiry

The straddle thread over in High Stakes reminded me of a question: Why do none of the Southern California B&M's allow a straddle in their games? I've tried to come up with a logical answer, and I can't. I'm not sure about the lower limits or way-high limits, but the middle limits definitely don't allow it. And they're very insistent. I've thrown out chips and announced "live straddle!" and invariably several players (and probably the dealer silently) say Sweet!, only to have a floorman rush over and F it all up with his rules.

What gives? What the heck is wrong with an optional straddle?

San Manuel allows it, out in San Bernardino. Dunno if you can re-straddle there, as I wasn't aware it was a possibility when I played there. They spread some 6/12, 9/18, and often a single 15/30 game.

They allow it only in no-limit games. In their limit games, straddling is not allowed.

I've seen floormen refuse to allow a 20-40 game to be switched to 40-80 even when all the players wanted it. Their logic is that new players won't fill the game, and bad players will lose their money, and the game will break. It makes some sense. But I am clueless as to why ALL the major So Cal casinos (Bike, Hawaiian Gardens, Commerce) don't allow a live straddle.

It's baffling to me. I can't even THINK of a logical reason. Can anyone?

Because it annoys me to the point I prefer to not play. Therefore, it probably annoys other people as much. At thats knowing I can rape your average straddler,

Re: Straddle Inquiry

I asked a shift supervisor about it last night (the floormen I asked had no clue) and he said the California Gambling Commission has outlawed the practice of a live straddle in limit hold 'em. It seems like a totally bizzare law and I'm not sure I buy it, but it must be some kind of law because there is no other reason I can think of why the casinos themselves would not allow it.

I thought someone on here might have some information, but I guess they don't. Oh well.
