Red Sox news

Mirrabelli Loretta

Can I get a hell yeah Dougieozz?

Loretta projects to produce 35.8 BRAR and Mirrabelli 5.3 BRAR which makes this yet another great deal for the red sox. Gets a lot of his OBP from walks, and appears to be a normal fielder based on UZR stats I saw that were unofficial.

of course wakefield needs a new caddy (or tek will take him and someone else will take someone else etc)

i mean, WOW!

Loretta is a gamble to bounce back but there is really little downside to this deal. Pretty amazing that they kept Boomer and now can still deal him for somebody else. Locking in Loretta also gives us a lot more flexibility if they potentially want to deal Renteria now. I really like the idea now of flipping Renteria to the Braves for Marte and signing a cheap SS, leaving open the possibility of breaking in Pedroia.

The four headed front office is looking pretty good right now.

Looks really good. I am a bit surprised the Sox only had to give up Mirabelli. Especially after last season, where Doug was fairly mediocre. He definitely has starting potential though - a catcher with a career .750 OPS has quite a bit of value. It makes sense to trade him, because the Sox aren't getting much value from him and have a comparable player in Shoppach ready to step in.

Even if Loretta doesn't get any of his power back, he would be a huge improvement over last year's 2nd basemen.

Doesn't seem like Theo leaving has hurt the Sox F.O. that much.

good move. your stats put another way: we are trading a good backup for a good starter.

lets hope Shoppach is ready to back-up? Somehow I doubt it thought.

Why? He should be more than qualified to backup. Or are you saying his 0 for 15 in the majors nullifies his .860 OPS in AAA in >400 PA.

The rumors of Renteria in a three-way deal that netted Julio Lugo didn't sound too bad either.

Red Sox have done themselves a world of good in the off-season so far.

'sounds' like the deal has a very good chance of happening.
