the rio vs the wynn

my friend recently won a seat from pokerstars to the wsop

now they offer free accomodations to the rio for 9 days, or 1000 in cash.

he wants us to take the cash and stay at the wynn, since it's a great hotel and his general stay there his last visit to las vegas was astounding.

my question is, will it be annoying during WSOP time to travel to the rio from the wynn.

and is a stay at the wynn much different accomodations wise than a stay at the rio?

all comments appreciated.

as nice of a hotel as the wynn is (it's great) and as nice as the rooms (they are great), take the free rooms at the rio.

a) $1000 will only get you 6-7 days at the wynn with the poker rate (less after including hotel fees & taxes).

b) getting back and forth will be a pain in the ass, especially if you're going to do it several times a day.

stay at the wynn, or better yet the bellagio (same poker rate), during your next vegas trip.

Agreed. Stay at the Wynn on another trip. The Rio for free? I'll take that deal 9 out of 10 times. I've seen the rooms there before, and they're pretty damn good. Going back and forth is a pretty big pain in the ass if you ask me. Strip traffic alone makes me cringe...

No. It's always annoying to a degree but the WSOP is not nearly as big an event as some of the conventions that clog the strip every month. It's not a big deal.

Since I play poker, I only judge a room by its soundproofing and general cleanliness. The difference between Wynn's rooms and everyone else's is enormous. If you're an aesthetics nut, Wynn rules. If you want to stay in one of the nicest casinos in the world, it's Wynn. If you want to play the cash games in the very nice new poker room, then it's Wynn. If you're just going to play at the Rio in the tournament then stay there. I would take the cash and stay at Mirage then play at Wynn, Rio, Bellagio and MGM...but I'm nuts.

well that's the rub, isn't it? stars will put you up somewhere else from which you will also have to travel to the rio.

it's a very short trip from the wynn to the rio. take spring mountain west, left on polaris, left on twain west, right on rio drive. this will put you into the parking lot next to the entrance where the tournaments are held.

even if staying at the rio you would not be able to go to your room during breaks since the rooms are far from where tournament i s

if that's true, then maybe staying at the wynn is the better call since the Wynn is across the street from TI and therefore they are essentially equidistant from the Rio.

if money isn't a consideration, take the wynn.
