Re: Worst Steven Spielberg Film?

Ah. I see. Thanks. The ending doesn't seem quite so tacked on when you know the real story.

Ringo_Mojo 12-27-2005 09:28 PM

Re: Worst Steven Spielberg Film?

I got the ending, but i still didn't like AI, mostly because it was so messed up, it was like three very different movies tacked together.

But i don't think it belongs on the list because its not really a Spielberg movie, its a Kubrik movie that Spielberg picked up after he died. I'd like to think that if it Speilberg had died before filming Jaws and Kubrik picked it up that it would have sucked ass too.

Re: Worst Steven Spielberg Film?

If Kubrik had done it, we definitely would have been rooting for the shark.

Re: Worst Steven Spielberg Film?

I voted for Hook, but I think there are three or four other movies on the list that are easily as bad.

A.I. is winning this poll? That's a genuine surprise. The movie is very good.

It's always worth a laugh when somebody says they don't like the film because aliens show up at the end.

[/ QUOTE ]

Am I allowed to hate AI because of the cute little bear from the fabric softener commercials?

That movie sucked dick.

EDIT: Since when is "dick" allowed?

See The Color Purple.

I dare you.

Well I haven't seen The Color Purple... but I've heard good things.

I'm sure the shark would have had all the good lines....

"How do you eat women and children?"
"Easy, you don't lead 'em as much."

I see that only a few people besides myself even saw 'Always', which accounts for the other votes.

The Color Purple and Amistad are obvious choices. Why you would choose to make those movies is beyond me.

I haven't seen The Terminal but I can't see how it could be good.

the color purple only gets saved for me for Prince's soundtrack for it.

1941 is such a massive dissapointment that for me, it has to be the only choice

sam,

I've seen them all except for Always and Munich. I picked The Terminal. 1941 was my second choice.

This was the worst movie I ever saw as a kid, save The Sound of Music.

EDIT: Why is everyone hating on War of the Worlds. I watched it tonight and thought it was a decent movie. I thought it was a pretty intense movie up until the ending, which really is out of Spielberg's hands. Oh well, agree to disagree...

Ulysses 12-28-2005 02:50 AM

Re: Worst Steven Spielberg Film?

K,

Yeah, planning to see Munich this weekend. Also cautiously considering The Ringer, Hostel, or Wolf Creek.

Wolf Creek sounds terrible. Well, to me anyway.

I don't get all the hate on A.I. and War of the Worlds, I liked them both. The endings were a little weak but I don't think that they ruined the entire movie.

that's a question for scifi purists. i didn't hate it that much (hence not a nerd?) AI is clearly the worse movie.

I chose the terminal. I was going to choose hook, or AI, but then I remembered that they at least had a minimal amount of eye candy going for them.

If A.I. ended when Haley Joel Osment was on the bottom of the ocean looking at the Blue Fairy saying "Make me a boy" over and over again, and faded to black, cue John Williams score, it would have been a MUCH stronger ending, IMO.

anyway, isn't 1941 the clear choice here?

I cannot in clear conscience vote for "1941". The John Williams score and the Eddie Deezen dummy save this for me.

Yeah, that's why I thought that the ending was tacked-on afterwards. At the time, I thought that they'd originally ended the movie with him at the bottom of the ocean but that test audiences hadn't liked it, so they added the aliens/robots ending.

Turns out that the horrible ending was meant to be there all along.

The first time my parents tried to get me to watch this, I started crying and threw a tantrum halfway through because I hated it so much. I've never seen it since. I couldn't tell you what it's about. I couldn't even tell you why I hated it so much because it's been so long. I just know that whenever that movie gets mentioned the sheer disdain that I had as a kid comes back out, and I have to complain about it.

And I liked Mary Poppins when I was a kid so it's not like I was anti-musical or anti-Julie Andrews. Just hated that damn movie so much.

Re: Worst Steven Spielberg Film?

War of the Worlds was at least entertaining. AI was pretty interesting. There are a few I haven't seen (1941), but out of the ones on the list, I think Amistad is an easy choice. Very, very boring.

people, we already had this discussion. WotW is not the worst movie ever. that is clearly battlefield earth. WotW ending is not the worst movie ending ever. frankly, i can't even blame spielberg for staying faithful to the book ending. i doubt better execution would make it any better. fwiw, the book is a classic in spite of qualms over the ending.
