Help me choose a laptop +NSFW

I have had a desktop from Wal-Mart for three years, and now that I have some money to spend, I feel it would be wise to spend on a laptop for college and a certain onlien game. I'll be willing to spend anywhere up to 1200 or so, but if I could get what I want for less, I would appreciate it.

The things I want to be able to run are:

Microsoft Word
Instant Message
Music (ITunes or whatever)
Online P*ker with minimal overlap for four tabling
Wireless Internet capabilities

Also, I would appreciate any advice on what sort of anti-virus protection to get.

Sorry if this sounds incredibly n00bish, which I'm sure it does, but I would appreciate any help I can get.

Oh yea, we haven't had Elisha on here for a while

wait till dell has 750 off 1500, and get a 700M. small, cheap, does everything YOU need.

check www.slickdeals.net or www.gotapex.com for deals.

ty for the help, i appreciate it, but if you could explain what 7500 for 1500 is, and the min resolution to 4 table I'd appreciate it a lot

Someone just explained this to me, so figure I'd pass along my new knowledge.

The minimum resolution you can have for 4-tabling is 1600x1200, because each poker table is 800x600 pixels. Anything less than that will have at least some overlap.

Good luck with your purchase. I'm in the market for a new laptop myself.

WTF? Leave that [censored] in OOT, geeks don't need psuedo-porn incentive to help people, there's all the porn you want just a click away. Damn, she's hot though.

Get bad video card + upgrade
In my experience, warranties are +EV, but supposively ther are -EV or companies wouldn't push so ahrd for you to buy them.

Re: Help me choose a laptop +NSFW

Those extended warrantees are definitely -EV, otherwise the store wouldn't offer them. Why would a retail outlet offer something where it expected to lose money? Dealer hits on 19... NOW we're talking.

It's fine, all the major labels are going to be good enough for basic use. I personally use Kaspersky, as I like the additional features it offers, but it might not be for everyone. Norton or McAfee should be good for the intermediate user.

McAfee is decent, but I have one big beef with it. The auto-updates don't install unless you're logged on as an administrator. I use a non-administrator account for day-to-day use (which is good practice often keeps viruses and spyware from installing), but whenenver the ne definitions download, I get a popup and have to log in to an andmin account before they will actually install. They should run the auto-update un Local System or an Admin account so the automatic updates are really automatic without forcing you to compromise your security by running as an admin.
