Casinos near Niagara Falls

Hi,

I'm leaving for Toronto, Canada, my first trip there, on Friday morning and will be staying until January 1st. It's a short trip but I was interested in getting in some poker at a casino. My hotel is a block away from Niagara Falls. I don't know Canada too well so any tips on a local casino to check out?

Go to both. They're within walking distance of each other. Both have poker rooms too. Enjoy!

Fallsview is nicer and spreads higher limits (30/60+) and their only NL game is 5/5 NL500 with no rake and a time charge (very reasonable, too). The old casino has 1/2 NL100 and other games of that nature, all low-limit stuff.

This "old casino" you guys are speaking of is within walking distance of Niagara Falls? What is it's real name? Thanks for the responses. They are helpful.

Yes, you can see the actual waterfalls from both casinos. They're within walking distance of eachother.

The "old casino" they're referring to, and that you're asking about, is called Casino Niagara, and as you said is literally within walking distance of the Falls, which is about the only reason one might prefer it over Fallsview. Fallsview (the newer one) is a nicer, more-Vegas-style place, with very, very fishy low-limit games. I've never played poker at Casino Niagara (they didn't have a poker room until recently, when the poker boom kinda forced them to add one), so I can't comment firsthand on the quality, or lack thereof, of the games there.

There's also an Indian casino on the American side...Seneca Niagara Casino, in what used to be the Niagara Falls Convention Center, with a bigger poker room that spreads more games than either of the Canadian places, although the level of competition tends to be higher than Fallsview. It's about the only reason to spend any time in Niagara Falls, NY, actually, since the rest of the town (on that side of the border) is a depressed (and depressing) dump. The Canadian side is much nicer, with plenty to do besides go to the casinos, especially in the spring and summer. Actually, Artpark on the American side is cool and has some good events, but that's actually located in Lewiston, NY, near the Queenston bridge (the one that connects directly to the QEW spur), not in the city of Niagara Falls.

As an aside, if you're into Indian food, one of the best Indian restaurants I've ever eaten at is located one block from Fallsview...don't remember the name or the street it's located on, but as you walk out the main entrance of Fallsview, it's located on the next street up the hill right in front of you, within view of the casino. Absolutely excellent food.

There is a 4 star restaurant in the old casino that has an awesome view of the falls. It's a steakhouse(I forget the name). All 3 casinos are within a short walk of each other. The two Canadian ones have a shuttle bus between them. If you don't take the bus it's about a 15 to 20 minute walk(which is cool when it's warm but a horrible in the winter). Fallsview has super soft 6/12 and 500 max nl games, most of the tourists make the games. The Niagara games are supersoft too but the rake is bad unless you get a rush of cards. I try and play on the US side because the games are nearly as soft and the rake is better and you get free alcohol...... You are thinking of The Keg, which is nothing short of amazing. Go there, definitely.
