Writing down exposed cards
 

I realize the furor over software that recalls exposed cards in Stud games. I am curious what somone would think if they knew that their opponents writing this down while playing against them online. This is old school paper & ink here.

Taking it a step further, what about a program that doesn't do anything automatically, but allows you to click a card and a number and have it display the cards for each player.

Finally, if someone was taking such notes in a live game/casino, would they just be mocked or would they be escorted away?

Note: I don't do any of these things but I was curious about the ethics of it all...

I'd have no problem with someone writing down the cards. My expectation is that it would hurt their play more than help it. You would be so busy writing down stuff that it would steal valuable time away from thinking about what to do, and from observing the behaviour of other players.

This must explain why some people take so long to act. Either that, or they're PM'ing. The amount of players who go into their Jesus Ferguson act on every street playing online stud annoys the sh*t out of me.

The more I have played stud, the better my memorization of exposed cards has improved.

Early on, while playing online, I used a chart I created in Excel that listed each card in columns by suit--as the cards were dealt, I'd use a blue highlighter to mark off the exposed cards. There would be about 12 of these charts on a sheet of paper, and I'd only bother with the hands I'd get involved.

Now I try to use the "Doc AZ method" of repeated the exposed cards at least 4 or 5 times silently as they are dealt, arrange them in numeric order and focus more on the cards that would improve my hand and a little on the cards that would improve my opponents hand(s)--this works.

Wouldn't a tall laminated card with all the cards printed on it work pretty well? I'm thinking along the lines of a roll of paper towels and a dry-erase marker.

It probably wouldn't take too long of this before you could just remember the important dead cards. This is the route I'll probably be going once I actually start playing.

I wouldn't go any sort of software route, since the aim is always to take the game live, where these crutches aren't available and a good players' edge is probably much larger.

I don't think anyone would have a problem with that, but it would probably be better for you to try and do it in your head. You'll struggle with it at first but you'll get it down with some experience, and the crutch of writing it all down will just hinder your improvement and take up valuable time which was said earlier.
