Re: What do you think of my play

I like the way you played this. The only difference is that I would have raised the flop. You already have a big pot brewing (7.5 BB on the flop), and I would want to do anything I could to scoop or 3/4 it. From reading this forum, I am starting to suspect that I promo raise too much in limit O8, however. Currently, I remain on the fence about whether everyone else is wrong, or whether I am just a maniac .

Please don't discount the fact that both of the above statements are correct.

We are all wrong, AND you are a maniac.

You got your half.

They all had A2 or 32 for low. and had their 2 counterfitted with no backup.

I ended up getting a 1/4 of the pot with the CO getting the other 1/2 of the low. He was playing 37810. Man I wan him to be at every table that ever play at.

I don't think you can ignore the effects of getting quartered on this small a return.

Re: What do you think of my play

I think you have made a calculation error. You appear to be assuming you get all your bets back when you split the pot. In this case you only win half the pot minus half of the bets that you must recoup to break even. This error will be worse the more bets you put in.

Suppose my friend and I both put in a dollar on a coin flip and when heads comes he gets everything and when tales comes I get half the pot and he gets half the pot. You would call your win +.50, but clearly you don't win anything because you only get a dollar back and you only put a dollar in. Does this make your error more clear? How do you handle this in a more complicated situation? Whenever you split the pot, you must adjust the pot to your actual win by doing 0.5*pot - 0.5 * (bets you had to put in to get half) = effective pot.

I am pretty sure this correction will be enough to make your raising play significantly lower than a flat call on the turn.

When I redo your calculations with this correction, I get the EV of calling = 3.195 and EV of your play = 1.5. Clearly your line was much much worse than flat calling. This is an extremely common mistake and can be quite costly. As you can now see, you cut your EV in half by making this play.

You are right. I am going to have to rethink this hand.
