Red Sox news
Mirrabelli Loretta
Can I get a hell yeah Dougieozz? Loretta projects to produce 35.8 BRAR and Mirrabelli 5.3 BRAR which makes this yet another great deal for the red sox. Gets a lot of his OBP from walks, and appears to be a normal fielder based on UZR stats I saw that were unofficial. of course wakefield needs a new caddy (or tek will take him and someone else will take someone else etc) i mean, WOW! |
Re: Red Sox news
Loretta is a gamble to bounce back but there is really little downside to this deal. Pretty amazing that they kept Boomer and now can still deal him for somebody else. Locking in Loretta also gives us a lot more flexibility if they potentially want to deal Renteria now. I really like the idea now of flipping Renteria to the Braves for Marte and signing a cheap SS, leaving open the possibility of breaking in Pedroia.
The four headed front office is looking pretty good right now. |
Re: Red Sox news
Looks really good. I am a bit surprised the Sox only had to give up Mirabelli. Especially after last season, where Doug was fairly mediocre. He definitely has starting potential though - a catcher with a career .750 OPS has quite a bit of value. It makes sense to trade him, because the Sox aren't getting much value from him and have a comparable player in Shoppach ready to step in.
Even if Loretta doesn't get any of his power back, he would be a huge improvement over last year's 2nd basemen. Doesn't seem like Theo leaving has hurt the Sox F.O. that much. |
Re: Red Sox news
good move. your stats put another way: we are trading a good backup for a good starter.
lets hope Shoppach is ready to back-up? Somehow I doubt it thought. |

He should be more than qualified to backup. Or are you saying his 0 for 15 in the majors nullifies his .860 OPS in AAA in >400 PA. |

Re: Red Sox news
Red Sox have done themselves a world of good in the off-season so far.

'sounds' like the deal has a very good chance of happening. holla http://www.bravesbeat.com/bios/marte.jpg |

Re: Red Sox news
Per rotoworld, the Sox will pay roughly $11M of the $29M owed to Edgar. And they intend on keeping Marte rather than flip in another deal.

Re: Red Sox news
Amazing, isn't it? The Red Sox made the playoffs 3 straight years and they have blown it up. As of now, the entire infield will be all different players than from last year.
And they're not done yet. Damon is unsigned, they're still looking to move Manny and Nixon has been rumored in different trade scenario's. So it's theoretically possible that the only position player from last year will be Varitek. Pretty amazing. |
Re: Red Sox news
I think the Sox are trying to get Julio Lugo.

One half of the Flying Gonzali? [/ QUOTE ] Or some other unpalatable option like Clayton or Cora. Maybe with the intention of letting Pedroia challenge for the job and/or of renting Michael Young for half the season next year. But either way it is better than flipping Marte and others back down to Tampa for some disgusting combination of Lugo/Huff/Baez. |
Re: Red Sox news
digusting? you know not of what you speak. Lugo's a fine player.

digusting? you know not of what you speak. Lugo's a fine player. [/ QUOTE ] Lugo is a decent player but, given that the D-Rays were apparently unwilling to flip him straight up for Marte, the rumored packages for Lugo and others would have been ugly. Lugo is also entering his free agent year and, given current market trends, the Sox would likely be in a position of either overpaying him to stay or just getting a one year rental. Marte is a risk, obviously, but the value of getting a low cost impact player for six years is really considerable. |

WTF? This is insane. I don't get it.

Q: "Do you think Theo currently has influence on the Sox front office moves" "Yes" he's also saying he STILL thinks there's a good chance he returns as GM this year |

Re: Red Sox news
more fuel for the clemens rumors:
"The Red Sox have communicated with Roger Clemens's agents, the Hendricks brothers, over the past few days to express their interest in the future Hall of Famer if he elects to play in 2006. Clemens, who was not offered salary arbitration by the Houston Astros, was informed of the contact, and sources close to Clemens said the pitcher reacted positively to the scenario of a return to Boston." link |

Re: Red Sox news
I'm a Yankee fan, and Clemens is a dick, but if he were to pitch for the Sox, what an electrifying moment it would be, that first game when he pounced out of the dugout to take the mound.
