JJ Line

This is my second hand at the table. I have no read on button or BB. I am not a big fan of reraising with pocket Js here preflop until I have a read on button since I would rather play a small pot with him because he has position. How's the river play?

River play seems fine not much your ahead of there, althought I'm not so sure I would be happy with a flat call preflop. Just out of curiosity, whats your plan if this hand goes down as expected and you find yourself against the button (whats your move if he calls? if he raises?).

Re: JJ Line

no reads make me feel lost in a hand like this

i dont see how u can't bet this flop unless u plan a check raise, it looks good for jj, u got a gut shot and a over pair

if u bet pot on the flop there would be 300 in so on the turn when the 8 comes u can bet 200-300
now lets see what his next move is

if he calls u gotta think ur beat by a boat or a slow played str8 so i check the river
if he bets (im sure he will) i call a resonable bet(a10,k10,22-66 type hand)
and i fold to an alln

Man, I don't think you can call ANY river bet if you pot flop, then pot turn and get called both times (except if he bet like 1/5 pot or some such, Id have to pay of there). At this point you check/fold.

This is an excellent example of how important position is.

Re: JJ Line

After the turn I put him on a hand range of A10-109 and 98 seem most likely. I would think if he flopped two pair, he would have to reraise me on the flop and if he flopped a set at least on the turn he would reraise to try to commit me. I wouldn't think A10, k10, or 10J could value bet the river though. There were alot of missed draws on the board and I think he could be making a play at it since I showed weakness.

Perhaps betting more on the flop and more on the turn would shut this down quicker or give you a better idea of where you are.

In general, this is fine.

Re: JJ Line

You really should re-raise pre-flop because you are overwhelmingly likely on average to have the best hand right now and you'll be out of position for subsequent rounds. You can also get rid of the big blind and make the button less inclined to raise you.
