50c tips

I was playing 5/10 holdem, and this guy would ask the dealer to split a white chip and then give him a 50c tip.

Did the dealer promptly split the pot and give the guy half?

Only time I've seen that is 1-5 stud with no ante. Doing it at 5/10 is just cheap, which pretty much confirms you were at the Taj :0)

I was playing 3/6 at Canterbury and a guy tossed a blue chip to the dealer and asked him to chop it. The dealer threw it back and said, "No thanks."

Re: 50c tips

I've only twice given $0.50 tips. The first time was my first ever experience playing poker. It was at the Excalibur. I saw many others doing this, and I didn't know any better.* The other time was at the Mirage, when I had a dealer who, in my opinion, was very obnoxious in insisting on splitting a $1 chip into quarters in every pot, knowing that no one wanted quarters and would thus give them back to her as a tip. When I finally won a pot, I gave her two quarters, since she had so conveniently split them for me without me having asked.

* - I also had a dealer that night who told me that if I could balance a chip upright on top of another, he would give me a quarter for it. I said, "Well, that's easy!", and I balanced the chip. He grabbed the $1 chip, and gave me a quarter for it.

Re: 50c tips

I've seen guys buy rolls of 50c for $10, which are located on 5/10 stud tables because that is the standard ante and only give 50c tips in Hold 'Em.

Whats the big deal???

A tip is a tip...

If the dealer threw it back at me.

Then he wont get a tip at all. Unless he deals me 4 of a kind!
