Help with VPIP for SSNL, Please!

Thanks for the time fellas. Let me ask, I've returned to playing small stakes no limit about two weeks ago and wanted some advice. I have a VPIP of 17 percent right now. I'm at the 10 and 20 dollar buy ins.
1. Is that a good number?
2. Is there a recommended preflop raise figure for NL at the small stakes?
3. Agression, is my 1.7 too weak?
Thanks for the time. I appreciate it. I'll buy Ed's book in May when it comes out.

Six max or full ring?

Lots of styles are profitable. I won at 12ptbb/100 with a vpip of 18 and a pfr of 5, my aggression total was like 2.2. Aim for something like that. As you get better (talking like in 50k hands time), loosen up and become more aggressive preflop.

I really think that stats are meaningless in NLHE. Since so many pots end up going uncontested, aggression factor is probably the only one that matters.

That said, what does VP$IP even tell you? I could play .5% of hands and only play 7 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]2 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], does that makes me a better player?

Don't have the skills for 6 max yet so full ring only.

You need not to worry about how much your VPIP/Aggression stats are and worry more about the poker you're playing.

You should aim to play a style that is deceptive and hard for your opponents to play vs. A style that makes you money in various ways such as being able to get paid when you have a hand to being able to pick up small pots here and there.

You need to focus on playing better, smarter, stronger poker. That's what matters and that's what makes you money long term.

Being too loose or too tight are definately factors that fall into the above category and get reflected in VPIP.
