More $0.50/1 6-max or $1/2 full?

I've played about 10,000 hands at $0.50/1 full (I know it's not enough hands to be certain I am a winning player). I tried $1/2 and started off poorly. I also tried $0.50/1 6-max, and am flopping around the break-even mark (only 2,000 hands or so). I find myself doing dumb things occasionally in 6-max. I know if I really want to master this I need to play here longer.

I have enough bankroll to try $1/2 again. I'd like to move up faster if I am a winning player. I understand that it's important to play 6-max, and on Party it's generally looser. I am playing places with bonuses. I guess my goal, besides having fun, is to maximize winning money now and in the future, and for the future it's at a higher level (if I am a winning player).

I am only playing 2-3 tables at a time, and only playing once or twice per week for 1-3 hours per session, so it takes me a long time to play thousands and thousands of hands.

So, is there enough to learn at $0.50/1 6-max that will help at $1/2 and up?

Thanks,

-Tom

you sound like me a few months ago.

take the time and learn shorthanded play. It's a lot more fun, and a lot more like poker than full ring.

I'd go ahead and put some hands in at .50/1 until you feel very confident with your preflop and flop game. Find the chart if you need it.

Also, something that helped me a ton was going to Stars and playing in five dollar heads up limit tourneys. Its not expensive to get a lot of heads up hands in this way, and you learn a ton about blind defence and steals. You'll also put in a lot of hands vs various styles, and learn how to exploit each one. I still do this before a session ocasionally, kind of as a warmup.

Once you're comfy, take shots as your bankroll dictates.

good luck!

Play the .50/1 6-max for a few thousand more hands and decide if your better at full or SH. then move up.

I am Certainly no Pooh-Bah. However no one can really answer this question for you. Now, you've said you have had the bankroll, so why not give $1/2 a try until you really start dropping a lot of BB's and then, worst case scenario is you contiune to plug at $.5/1 until you feel comfortable again. You've said you have the bankroll, I'm a believer in taking a shot, and not a 400 hand shot, a good couple of thousand hand shot, and if im doing okay I'll stay up. But if playing higher than you think you are is going to affect your play, i.e playing weak tight, then you should stay put and hone your game.

I have a lot of experince in both games and can tell you that $1/2 full is a lot more aggressive than the .5/$1 six max games. That being said, I notice a difference in the aggression of $.5/1 six max and $.5/1 full. That being said I didn't notice a huge difference between $.5/1 and $1/2 full respectivly. But really, its personal experince and comfort which should ultimatley make this decision for you.

Good luck.

I thought 1/2 full was a big difference compared to .5/1. People were alot tighter, but maybe I was playing at a time with lots of rocks. I didnt play that much 1/2 full. I find 6 max more fun and important to improving, but you sound ready to move up. Only one way to find out if your ready or not, give it a try.

Go play 10-15K hands at 0.5/1 and come back and thank us all.

6-max is the future of online poker (take that to the bank).
