I'm confused as to whose replies are to my cover and whose are to others..

Attempt #2:

Is it just me or am I putting way too much emphasis on "Nuts and Bolts" ?

Considering this first ten guys thought that was the title of the book, I doubt it. Although I would think it would work better without the "NUTS and BOLTS" at all.

I agree, lose the "nuts and bolts" on the cover

I'm guessing that's a new screenname or you know him IRL?

Anyways.. his cover looks a helluvalot better than the crap I was pumping out!

I like this the best, but the "Ed Miller" font is too jagged. If you fix this, it will be acceptable.

Best I've seen yet. Not fond of the title font, but everything else is pretty sweet.

Hate to say it, but I'm not a fan.

There's almost too much information on the cover.
Also, is it just me, or is the chip thing overdone a bit?

I like it how one Princeton guy jumps on to say another is cool. Right.

Update

Hi Everyone:

We're getting some very good covers.

Our plan is to run the contest thru Wednesday. I'll then lock the thread and on either Thursday or Friday (or perhaps Saturday) Ed and I will sit down and pick the winner.

However, we'll also pick a couple of winner ups. Those selected in this category will recieve a Two Plus Two logo shirt. (I have the first one and they are quite nice. We should have our complete stock in about a week.)

best wishes,
Mason

Hey now! I have a long history of questioning the coolness of Princeton alums, which I think should should give me some leeway here.

Re: Cover Contest: Getting Started in Hold \'em -- Second Try

Very nice, but you should use an apostrophe instead of a left single quotation mark in "Hold'em". Also, to my knowledge, there shouldn't be any space in "Hold'em", even though 2+2 seems to think that there should be.

Beach-Whale 02-13-2005 10:20 AM

Re: Cover Contest: Getting Started in Hold \'em -- Second Try

Also, shouldn't it really be "Sit'n'Go" instead of "Sit 'n Go"? I know Mason wrote "Sit 'n Go," but I think he's wrong.

Re: Cover Contest: Getting Started in Hold \'em -- Second Try

2nd one is the best graphic imo, but all the cards around the edge make it look too busy and cluttered. Might be cool if the cards in the center weren't opaqued and the ones on the edges were, I dunno. Text layout looks the nicest on the first one though. Oh, and you forgot the revolver! Deaner's , Obliky's and Naggo's IMHO are the front runners.

Nearly died laughing at Greg Nice's. "getting better at flopping sets" lol

Thanks for the feedback everyone....I made a few revisions on the title and author name. Some of the fonts look jagged here but it's just because it's scaled down. I've used these fonts before and they print clean.

This is my first draft and can be modified any way needed. I wanted to have a basics/101 school type theme while staying with the 2+2 traditional look.

OK, here's my crack at it. One version of the cover:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...illercover.jpg

Here's another cover version with a simpler background:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...cover2jpeg.jpg

And here's a try at a back cover:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...kcoverjpeg.jpg

My wife and I were in disagreement about the cover style. I said it should look something like the other 2+2 books, for uniformity sake. She says no, so she's going to do her own submission!

I don't have the royalties to the photo, but I'm guessing any cover with a photo would need to be re-taken at a higher resolution anyway.

deaner03-my recommendation to you:
the heart/diamond don't look that good on the red. I'd either change the background color, or use all spades or all clubs.
