20-40 at Hawaiian Gardens

9 handed at Hawaiian Gardens, standard complement of loose aggro's at the table.

I'm in the BB with 5h6d, folded to MP who raises, an LP cold calls, the SB calls, and I call.

Flop is 4c 7c 9d. SB checks, I check, MP bets, LP raises, SB folds, I call, MP 3-bets, LP caps, I call and MP calls.

Turn is 6s. I check, MP bets, LP raises, I call and MP calls.

River is Jc. I check, MP checks and LP checks. LP has pocket Q's, and takes it.

Was I correct to be a calling station here?

Hi Sparks,

Looks like a doosy of a table. Daring call preflop. I don't call here when it's going to be a raisefest, mostly because you'll get caught up in these second/bottom pair situations with a lag and you'll have to call him down at the river with a gazillion bets in the pot.

Being that you called pf, I don't see much variation to how you could have played postflop. Knowing that it was going to be pumped up, calling is fine. Would you have called a river bet though?

In this sort of game I think you can safely airmail 65o to the muck before the flop. Straight draws suck in games where you're going to take a lot of heat after the flop.

65s would be a different matter entirely, of course.

Most certainly not.

On the flop and turn though, it just felt wrong doing all that calling, especially of raises and re-raises. It's just basic pot odds, but I'd say I played it correctly on all streets, including PF.

hi sparks

if you didn't think a check-raise would foldout, you played it fine.

"standard complement of loose aggro's at the table"

It's hard to know how many outs you had, or what the redraws are, because these guys will light up the flop with any kind of made hand or draw. This is exactly why you can't call in the BB with 56o, or even 56s, when the game is as you describe. You'll get better spots for sure.

u dont have to call preflop, but i prolly would,
on the flop i fold, don't want to call 2 cold w/ flush draw out

I think you played it fine. Your preflop call was getting 7:1. I think 56o plays decently well multiway.

Assuming the turn is NOT 3 bet... you are getting good odds on your OESD. 6:1 on a 4.875:1 draw.

BUT.. if the turn is 3 bet, your odds become even more marginal. 4.6777:1 on a 4.875:1 draw.

If it's 4 bet (however slim), your situation has turned from a profitable one to a very poor situation.

Depending upon how loose the game is, I think you could add anywhere from 2-5 outs for trip 6s or a raggy 2 pair.
