1) You can find them Here throughout the season

2) MEH. offensive winshares is pretty useful, it factors in teh CLUTCH~! defensive winshares blows. bill james threw together a bunch of crap just to make it work without being able to explain it.

yea these really disturbed me. i have a hard time believe that david eckstein is more valuable than travis hafner.

I'm wondering how Eckstein got 20.6 offensive win shares.

well hafner got a 0 for defense since he's a dh that basically is the reason. i guess the only conclusion might be a good hitter who can also play short is pretty valuable. interesting giles was so high. may tell you how tough petco park is.

I think Andy's point was that Eckstein is not a good hitter.

Well, ranking third in OBP in the NL's a pretty valuable thing. But yeah, according to BB-Ref, Petco surpressed hitting by 10%.

Is it position adjusted? If so, a .363 OBP over 158 games at shortstop is worth a ton.

Offensive win shares aren't position adjusted. The position adjustment is built in to the defensive win shares.

Still, Eckstein's year at the plate was far and away the best of his career and 20.6 win shares does not seem far off to me.

To the best of my understanding, it's pretty damn hard to get an accurate defensive rating without batted ball locations. Since James created win shares with the goal of evaluating all of the players in baseball history - I think he did a decent job.
