I broke my 20/40 cherry

I know this is small stakes to a lot of you, but how about giving a brother a break?

Commerce live 20/40.

UTG limps, I raise UTG+1 with A [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] K [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], button cold calls, BB calls, UTG calls.

UTG is unknown player but I haven't seen him do anything stupid. Button is a big donator who cold calls too much and is aggressive.

Flop J [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 8 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 5 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]

BB check, UTG check, I check, button bets. BB folds, UTG and I both call.

Turn Q [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]

Everyone checks.

River K [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]

UTG and I check. Button bets. UTG calls. I call.

My main concern is the flop. Do most people bet here? What about check/fold?
Good or bad river overcall?

Your play looks very weak to me. You should bet the flop, and let the button raise, or check-raise isn't that out of line here.

Check/fold on the flop is WAY too weak, IMO.

I agree 100% with this, but that is going under the assumption that, if everyone calls the flop bet, and you check the turn, that everyone also checks the turn. If someone bets the turn, what's your play then?

Is it that weak to release your hand to a turn bet?

So you're saying your drawing to 10 outs, all of which you feel are clean, getting 7.5:1 if there's a bet and no other calls other than OP?

Re: I broke my 20/40 cherry

I feel like missed AK is the hand I least know what to do with.

I always bet against 2 opponents. I nearly always check against 4 unless I have backdoor outs. 3 is the number that perplexes me.

I checked the flop partially because I saw the button loading up chips. I've seen him do this before without apparent deception.

My plan at that point, is since the flop will be bet anyways, is to just check/call and re-evaluate on the turn. I don't think it's worth leading into a raise to protect a hand I'll usually fold on the turn anyhow.

Results:

Button shows A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], UTG player shows QTo (!?!)

Your line looks fine to me -- except bet the river next time.

AK whiffing on the flop is not an auto-bet as many people here wold have you believe. When might you think about check/calling flop? With a multi-way pot, with many conceivable draws, and an aggressive player to act behind you -- like in this case. See the turn cheaply.
People wonder why they get stuck at 1BB/100 -- want to know where your other BB/100s are? Buried in hands like this.
Fold turn UI if you face a bet.
