Tipping Question

Happy Hour paid for by the company, do you still tip a buck at the bar when you get the drink?

No. Whoever is paying will tip at the end.

No, they won't. At least not worth a damn.

Generally, no, as the company should be tipping on the whole tab if not already added by the joint. If the bartender is a really hot chick, though, you should tip.

Jake is correct the company does tip at the end, but it seems like I should still tip when I get a drink.

Yes. The bill at the end will likely be huge and I really doubt the person signing it is going to give a 15-20% tip on it.

Re: Tipping Question

It was discussed in an earlier post that it's best tip while your drinks are coming because otherwise you're liable to get bad service. Also, to the OP, was it happy hour like your boss said "Hey, let's all go to the bar?" or did your company bring in bartenders for a private thing? You could also just find out whether or not your company is just paying for the drinks or if they're including a tip.

Re: Tipping Question

I think its unlikely that your company will leave a tip unless it was rolled into the price that they were quoted by the bar - whichever admin set up the event and is handling the money will need reciepts for everything and can't just tack on a nice sized tip.

So either:
a) tips were included in the cost of the event, which means they will be lousy tips at best, or

b) tips weren't included and the bartenders are going to get majorly screwed

So I would just tip like I normally do. I mean, the worst that can happen is that you better service because you're the only one tipping. $1/drink is still cheap, especially when you start ordering all the top-shelf liquor you'd never shell out for otherwise.
