Home Tournament - players eliminated?
 

In a home tournament how do the button and the blinds rotate as players are eliminated. ie. I am under the gun, and the big blind is eliminated, do I miss my BB and am the small blind? What if the BB and SB are both eliminated, do I go straight to the button?

In our home tourney it goes like this: The BB must never be skipped. If you're UTG and the current BB gets eliminated, the current SB becomes the button, the previous BB is dead, and the previous UTG becomes BB.

In your second situation: The button would be dead twice, you would be the BB (with no SB) and then the SB the second time, then the button as usual.

No, you would become the BB. There is always a BB. If the person who was to be the SB is eliminated, then there is a Dead SB. For example, if seat 5 was to be the BB next hand, but is eliminated, seat 6 is the BB, seat 4 is the SB and seat 3 is the Button.

If seat five was to be the SB the next hand and is eliminated, then Seat 6 is the BB and there is no SB (dead SB). Seat 4 is the button. Then the next hand there is a dead button where the SB was sitting.

You never skip your blind.

If you are UTG and the BB is eliminated, then you are the new BB and there is no SB. The next hand you post the SB.

If both are eliminated, you basically do the same thing.

The small blind gets the button, and you become the big blind. On the next hand, the button does not move - you become the small blind, and the player on your left becomes the big blind.

The tricky part is that the button does not move.

What you are describing is not often seen, but something similar can be found in some casinos (and online, I've heard). No one can have the button more than once; blinds may be "skipped" or the button may end up with a blind to post.

Typically, the "dead button" rule is used. This is what the other posters are referring to, when the button doesn't move until it is "pulled" by the moving blinds.

In your scenarios:
a) You UTG, BB out. Next hand, you'd be the BB as you should be. There is NO small blind. The button moves to the player who was the SB last hand.
The next hand, you're the SB, player to your left is the BB (as he should be) and the button doesn't move (the old SB has the button twice).
The NEXT hand, button and blinds move as normal.

b) SB and BB both out- you're still the only blind. The button on the previous hand is the button again. Next hand, you're the SB, the button STILL doesn't move, and the BB is to your left. Then you play as normal from there.

Just remember the dead button rule this way- you never miss the BB and the SB "pulls" the button around the table.

HAven't read any other posts....but here are the two most important points:

a) The big blind must go in a continuous circle around the table hitting each and every player still in as it goes around.

b) No one will ever miss a big blind. Ever.

So you can have dead dealers, and dead small blinds...and very rarely both! As long as you never skip your big.

(and neither the button nor the small ever reverse directions either.)

I'm going to be weak-tight at life from now on, I learned my lesson.

Just kidding.

I use a dead button (as does the TDA). It's simple:

Whoever is due the BB has to post it. The button and SB are positioned once the BB is determined.

Sometimes this results in a dead button positon, sometimes in a dead SB. No one skips thier BB but you can skip your SB.

No one skips being button with this system and it's easy to remember and apply.

How can someone miss the SB with the dead button rule?
