10-20 NL Hand

7 handed game, this is my first orbit. 2 off the button I open raise K [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]9 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] to 55. Unknown calls me in the Hi-Jack, everyone else folds.

Flop 9 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]5 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 2 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]

I bet 100 he makes it 258, I call.

Turn A [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]

I check he bets 450

Plan? any good so far?

When he bets on the turn like that after a rainbow flop you are [censored]. The A is the worst possible card for his holdings you are ahead of - if he is truly unknown this one flies to the muck. Also, most people raise more before the flop. 55 seems to be a number that will entice many more callers than say 70 or 80 (there is a noticeable difference IMO).

Re: 10-20 NL Hand

yea I have already moved my raise size up to 65. I have been raising smaller in tournaments lately (with good results), so I kind of slipped and did it the first few hands in the cash games.

About post-flop...can I come back over the top on the flop then?? I really hate the idea of my line being...call, check-fold here in general. Do I have to get used to using that line?

Hiatus,

You can checkraise the flop as well. The bet/call is fine. As you played it, the turn card was horrible, so just check fold until you know this is a guy who can fire multiple barrel bluffs.

This is actually very easy. Raise more preflop (as James noted, people will play a much wider range for 55 than for 80). Flop is fine. Turn check allows you to get bluffed by worse hands, but your hand isn't one that can stand any heart and you can't just check/call to the river hoping you're good.

What if the turn is a card lower than a 9?

Bet again, silly.

So bet the flop...call a raise. And then lead again on the turn?

The raise was too small for me to take it seriously. I'm going to make sure he actually has a hand before I fold, and leading the turn does that. My advice though is based on my table image which is normally that of somebody stabbing at a lot of pots, so I'm always suspicious of people with position against me.
